The Story

Napa Estates Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

To Cellar and Bottle a wine means that the barrels and tanks are kept in storage for an unspecified time, and then the wine is bottled. The vineyards selected and the producer of the wine are unknown.

While DnA was the conduit that took this bottling to Trader Joe’s, Trader Joe’s Fearless Flyer mentions that this wine came from an unmentioned winery.

This wine is 100% Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

A 2022 vintage for a current-release Napa Valley wine is not unusual, but it is very rare for a $9.99 2022 Napa Cabernet.

Wine and spirits sales have been falling for several years, and reduced demand has hit Napa Valley wineries. New brands have been canceled, and orders for current wines have been reduced.

Wines that would have easily sold at the regular price are now available to bargain wine outlets.

We do not know what this wine should have been, but we do know its a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon at a low, low price.

The alcohol content is 14.9%. 2022 was a hot year, and ripe wines are the norm.

The Napa Estates Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 Tasting Notes

The color is black cherry jam with black highlights. The nose is pretty, reminds me of a Cabernet-based Bordeaux wine, a mix of ripe black and red berries, delicate spice, black pepper, a touch of herbs, a hint of smoke from a BBQ grill, and a floral edge. The Napa Estates Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is medium-bodied and has complex flavors and a long finish ($9.99?).

This Cabernet Sauvignon tastes like blackberry, a hint of cola, dusty tannins, and pomegranate, cold coffee, and cranberries.

The tannins accentuate the flavor profile, and the balanced acidity holds the wine together.

The Summary

  • The Napa Estates Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is a killer wine at $9.99.
  • Dennis and Andrea of DNA Cellars have been in Napa for decades and have serious good contacts.
  • Don’t know who the original winery was, but they did an excellent job on this wine.

Don’t tell anyone, but there is absolutely no correlation between the cost of wine and the quality of wine.

you are 100% correct, cost of wine does not equal quality. having been associated with wine since 1980 I always said, it does not take any wine brains to buy a bottle of first growth wines, but it takes a wine maven to drink first growth quality at fifth growth prices. salute
