Momentum Legacy Napa Cabernet Sauvignon 2023

The Momentum Legacy Napa Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 is a $14.99 wine sold at Trader Joe’s. It was bottled by Momentum Wines in Napa, California.

The Story

Momentum Wines is part of the Fior di Sole winery, which is located along the Silverado Trail east of Route 29 in Napa Valley. It is interesting that the legalese on the back label only mentions bottling and not any production.

The Fearless Flyer Holiday Guide 2025 says this Cabernet Sauvignon is “a beautifully opulent and refined wine from Napa Valley. It’s brought to us by a prestigious wine producer in the heart of Napa, whose name must remain secret, per the terms of our deal to bring Momentum into our stores.” Since I easily found Fior di Sole’s participation (bottling the wine) in this wine, there is another winery involved.

The Fearless Flyer does leave hints; they mention Newton’s 2nd law of physics along with Newton’s 3rd law. Now, this is my own speculation; I have no inside knowledge, but Newton Winery was badly damaged in the 2020 fires and closed down in 2025. It has recently reopened with a new owner, but has not released a new vintage.

Is there some relationship here? Then again, they also mention p=mv, which is Newton’s formula for momentum. PMV can also be the initials of Pride Mountain Vineyards and a major Napa Winery.

Either way, I think Trader Joe’s is trying to tell us that this Cabernet Sauvignon came from a producer who is usually out of Trader Joe’s reach.

This wine was aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, which is a detail more in line with expensive Napa Cabs.

The alcohol content is 14.5%

The Momentum Legacy Napa Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 Tasting Notes

The color is opaque blackberry. The nose is ripe blackberry and blueberry, soft spice, plum, herbs, cranberry, and vanilla, followed by violets. The Momentum Legacy Napa Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 goes down smooth.

This Cabernet Sauvignon tastes like cassis, juicy raspberry, vanilla, spice, faint chocolate, and pomegranate.

The tannins are dusty, and the acidity allows the flavors to fully unfold, giving this wine good length.

The Summary

• There is depth and richness to the flavors.
• Don’t know who made it, but I have a few guesses. But whoever produced this wine did an excellent job.
