The Whitehaven Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2024 is a wine I found for $13, the grapes are sourced from Wairau and Awatere river valleys on the upper east side of New Zealand’s South Island.
The Story
Whitehaven is a small family-owned winery founded in 1994. They own about 250 acres of vineyards in several sections of Marlborough.
It is not clear in their literature if this is an Estate wine or if they used contracted vineyards; most likely a mix of both. The production notes indicate they used over 100 separate lots of grapes.
Using many carefully chosen lots of grapes allows the wine to achieve all the complexity Marlborough has to offer.
The Wairau and Awatere river valleys offer cool coastal to warmer inland climates, along with valley and higher elevation vineyard sites.
The Whitehaven Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2024 is certified sustainably produced and has 13% alcohol.
This is classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, fermented and aged in Stainless Steel tanks using a variety of yeasts to bring out the desired flavors in the wine.
The Whitehaven Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2024 Tasting Notes
The color is almost clear, just a hint of yellow/green. The nose is delicious, a riot of tropical fruit and citrus. The Whitehaven Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2024 is balanced and has very good length.
This Sauvignon Blanc tastes like peach, lime, and Green apple. Followed by coconut milk, nectarine, grapefruit, pear, and spice.
The acidity is well-controlled and gives this wine length.
The Summary
