The Trader Joe’s Grower’s Reserve Organic Red 2024 is a $5.99 Trader Joe’s exclusive. It is produced for Trader Joe’s by ASV Wines.
The Story
ASV Wines seems to be the current supplier of Trader Joe’s Grower’s Reserve line of organic wine. They are a producer located in the Monterey AVA and make wine with certified organic grapes. They own several organic vineyards.
This wine shows California as the place of origin for the grapes, and the back label says “vinted and bottled by.” Which does not mean much more than they bottled the wine.
It is not an easy task to transform a vineyard in California to organic. There are some pests and diseases that need to be dealt with, and while it is possible, it takes time, work, and money.
So, nobody does the work to grow organic if they do not think highly of the grapes. Certified Organic can be seen as a sign of quality.
I found a post on Facebook that claims the Trader Joe’s Grower’s Reserve Organic Red 2024 is 83% Cabernet Sauvignon and 17% Merlot.
The alcohol content is 12.74, which is low for a California Bordeaux blend.
The Trader Joe’s Grower’s Reserve Organic Red 2024 Tasting Notes
The color is cherry red with black highlights. The nose is ripe black berries, herbs, spice, and plum. The Trader Joe’s Grower’s Reserve Organic Red 2024 is is smooth with a mix of fruit and sour flavors.
This Red Blend tastes like blackberry, black pepper, and a little licorice. Followed by dried strawberry and cassis. This Red is not overly complex, but what is in your glass is tasty.
The Tannins and the acidity are well-controlled, especially at this price point.
The Summary
- The Trader Joe’s Grower’s Reserve Organic Red 2024 is a surprisingly competent wine, given the price.
- It is a pleasing Tuesday Night sipper.
