The Trader Joe’s Brut California Sparkling Wine is an $8.99 Trader Joe’s exclusive. It is produced by Rack and Riddle who make most of TJ’s California Bubbly.
The Story
The Trader Joe’s Brut California Sparkling Wine is not a Reserve or Grand Reserve wine, but a plain old Trader Joe’s wine.
We already have North Coast Grand Reserve and all sorts of Sonoma Grand and Platinum Reserve Sparkling wines. Those, too, are made by Rack and Riddle.
A California Sparkling wine indicates that some of the grapes are possibly sourced from the Central Coast, Lodi, or the North Coast in some combination.
Brut means that this is a dry wine or not sweet.
The Traditional Method was used to add the bubbles, the same technique as Champagne. Here is a link on how the Traditional Method works.
$8.99 is a great price for a California Bubbly and Rack, and Riddle is highly experienced at making Champagne-style wines.
The alcohol content is 12.5%.
The Trader Joe’s Brut California Sparkling Wine Tasting Notes
The color is pale gold. The nose is lemon, brioche, green apple, peach, and nectarine. The Trader Joe’s Brut California Sparkling Wine is clean, crisp, and tasty.
This Cheap Bubbly tastes like lemon, melon, pear, soft spice, green apple, and a salty/nutty sensation.
The acidity is balanced and gives an $8.99 Bubbly some length.
The Summary
- The Trader Joe’s Brut California Sparkling Wine is a solid sipper, but cries out to be the base for a Mimosa or the like.
- The price is right for this cheap bubbly to be used as a mixer.
