The Rolling Mist Cabernet Sauvignon is a non-vintage $8.99 ALdi exclusive made by some division of E & J Gallo of Modesto, California.

Rolling Mist Cabernet Sauvignon

Neither Aldi nor Gallo offer any information concerning this wine. The back label mentions blackberry, which is a flavor characteristic of Cabernet Sauvignon, and oak spice and vanilla which are oak influences

Why is this Cab a non-vintage wine? A non-vintage wine uses grapes from more than one vintage, such as combining juice from 2021 and 2020. Often wines are non-vintage as a cost-cutting method.

But there could be other reasons. This could be a “leftover” wine, Gallo makes scores of wine brands, and maybe they blended unused wine into a new wine.

Or maybe, this is a value-priced wine from one vintage that they added a splash of a more premium wine from another.

I am typically wary of value-priced non-vintage wine, neither Aldi nor Gallo offer inferior quality wine, so I figure there is a good, simple reason why this is a non-vintage wine. The alcohol content is 13.5%.

The Rolling Mist Cabernet Sauvignon Tasting Notes

The color is plum red. The nose is ripe and fruity, with aromas of blackberry jam, brown sugar, black pepper, spice, french vanilla, and raspberry. The Rolling Mist Cabernet Sauvignon is on the light side of medium-bodied, with a nice mix of flavors.

This Cabernet Sauvignon tastes like ripe blackberry, a slap of sharp spice, a little vanilla, blueberry, and black pepper. The mid-palate shows a little cream, a salty sensation, and a late hit of cranberry.
