The Picton Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2022 is $7.99 at Trader Joe’s and sells for about $12.99 in places that Trader Joe’s does not serve. There is an actual Picton Bay winery. Usually, these wines are a brand made especially for TJ’s by a custom wine producer. The Picton Bay is a brand by Mount Riley Wines and this may be an estate-grown wine. They have an impressive winery with an excellent view so clicking on Mount Riley is worth the effort.

Picton Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2022

Marlborough is located on the north-east corner of New Zealand’s South Island and 85% of the wines exported from New Zealand come from here. The Picton Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2022 is a young wine made in stainless steel vats with nooak aging. These are simply produced wines that showcase the excellence of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc grapes.

This is intended to be a classic New Zealand Sauv Blanc, top quality at an affordable price. The alcohol content is 12.5%.

The Picton Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2022 Tasting Notes

The color is very pale wheat yellow. The nose is not shy the aromas jump out of the glass from a foot away, there is green apple, melon, peach, ripe pear, a grassy note, followed by pineapple, and guava. The Picton Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2022 has a medium mouthfeel with strong flavors and excellent balance.

This Sauvignon Blanc tastes like peach, apple, melon, and a little spice, along with tropical fruit and a hint of orange blossom honey. The mid-palate mirrors the main body of the wine but does add nectarine, Anjou pear, and tart lime. The acidity is very well controlled, and value-priced New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc can get a little spikey, but this one gets it right.
