Since Trader Joe’s does not provide details does not provide details on the making of this wine, we will concentrate on the Medoc District. There are 8 appelations and 600 Chateaus in Modec. They sell 100,000,00 bottles a year, half going to export.

Medoc wines sell in a range of $5 to $525, with a strong core of $10 to $25 wines. There have been vineyards in the Medoc since the 1300s. There are 46 growers in the Moulis-En-Modec AOC, producing an average of 4,300,000 bottles a year.

The Right Bank in Bordeaux is famous for Merlot-based wine, while the Left Bank is more Cabernet Sauvignon dominate. But you can find Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines in the Right Bank and Merlot based on the Left Bank.

The Trader Joe’s Grand Reserve Moulis-En-Modec Bordeaux 2022 is labeled a Grand Vin De Bordeaux wine which indicates that this is the wineryor Chateau top wine. The problem is we do not know which Chateau is responsible for this Red and Grand Vin De Bordeaux is not a legal labeling term.

It is not much different from Old Vine wines in California, there is no set definition for Old Vines, it is if the maker says it is. So maybe this is a top wine from who made TJ’s wine or maybe it simply looks good on the label. The alcohol content is 14%.

The Trader Joe’s Grand Reserve Moulis-En-Modec Bordeaux 2022 Tasting Notes

The color is a deep, dark, barely see-through black cherry red. The nose is blackberry, herbs, dark chocolate, raspberry, spice, plum, sweet blueberry, and a light floral edge. The Trader Joe’s Grand Reserve Moulis-En-Modec Bordeaux 2022 is smooth upfront with a rougher edge on the mid-palate. This wine has excellent tannins, they are not trying to hide.

This Red Blend tastes like blackberry, licorice, expresso, spice, and plum. The mid-palate adds a solid ug from the tannins, pomegranate, sharp spice, cranberry, and raspberry. This is a very French wine if you only know Cabernet Sauvignon from California, this wine is an eye-opener.

The acidity allows the flavors to unfold and gives this Red excellent length.
