The Aldi Specially Selected Cremant de Bordeaux Brut Rosé is a $11.99 Aldi import exclusive. The Aldi Specially Selected brand includes at least 55 wines in Europe, my local Ald’s never had more than 5 or 6. They had Cremant wines from France’s (8) Cremant AOP areas. Cremant translates to “creamy” but it stands for Bubbly or Sparkling wine made in the Traditional or Champagne Methos in France that isn’t Champagne. This is where the best bargain French Bubbly is.
The Cremant de Bordeaux region was formed in 1990 and comprises over 500 wineries. Cremant de Bordeaux uses the same grapes that are officially approved for Bordeaux still wines. According to Decanter, this Brut Rosé is 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. Decanter also judged this Bubbly to have 90 points.
I think this may well be my first Merlot. Cabernet Franc Bubbly so I am looking forward to the tasting section. With a little sleuthing, it looks like this Sparkling wine was produced for Aldi by the same company responsible for JP Chent wines.
According to Bordeaux Magazine Cremant de Bordeaux, wines often display nuts and honey flavors not associated with Champagne. The Aldi Specially Selected Cremant de Bordeaux Brut Rosé has an alcohol content of 11.5%.
The Aldi Specially Selected Cremant de Bordeaux Brut Rosé Tasting Notes
The color is Barbie Playhouse pink and the bubbles are plentiful. The nose is cherries, soft candy spice, a creamy note, and a little crusty bread. The Aldi Specially Selected Cremant de Bordeaux Brut Rosé has interesting flavors, is that licorice I taste?
This Bibbly tastes like black Cherry, black Australian licorice, a hint of herbs, and cassis. The mid-palate is subtle but does show dried blueberry, tart cranberry, and a little exotic spice. The acidity allows the flavors to unfold and sets you up for the next sip.
The Summary
- The Aldi Specially Selected Cremant de Bordeaux Brut Rosé is a very unique tasting Bubbly, I like it.
