Villa Borghetti Pinot Grigio Rosé 2017

Villa Borghetti Grigio Luna Pinot Grigio 2020

The Villa Borghetti Pinot Grigio Rosé 2017 is a $5.99 Trader Joe’s import exclusive, it is one of Bronco Wine Company (2 Buck Chuck) extensive line of wine brands, this one is sourced from vineyards near the town of Verona in the Veneto region of northeast Italy, Prosecco is in the same general area. This is designated a DOC wine which means it conformed to all the rules and regulations concerning the growing of the grapes and the production of this Pinot Grigio. Ok, now you are saying to yourself, “Hey this is a rosé, isn’t rosé made from Red grapes?” The answer to that is yes, almost all the time, but the thing about Pinot Grigio is the color of the grapes can range from light green to almost purple, with the color usually a grayish pink (Grigio translates to grey) so it has skin with some color that can be used for rosé. This wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel vats and has a relatively low alcohol content of 12%.

The color is a very pale pink, somewhere between apricot and orange. The nose is clean, fresh, and bright, grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, apple, and pear. This is a fruit-forward Pinot Grigio with somewhat subdued acidity, this is more of sipping wine than a food wine. It tastes of a mix of peach and lemon, with a touch of melon, and soft spice. The mid-palate adds strawberry, a slightly salty, nutty sensation, a little minerality, and pink lemonade. The finish is soft and lingers in the background for a good amount of time.

The Villa Borghetti Pinot Grigio Rosé 2017 is a very solid patio sipper. Don’t let the $5.99 price tag scare you off, it really drinks well. How they made it in Italy, then shipped to the US, and shipped it again to your local Trader Joe’s, sold for under 6 dollars and everyone along the line made a profit, I don’t know. In a blind tasting you would never guess the price to be 6 bucks. This is a wine that is well worth trying, just remember to put a good chill on the bottle and your good to go.

Don’t tell anyone, but there is absolutely no correlation between the cost of wine and the quality of wine.

Trader Joe’s no longer has this wine in stock and is not expecting to get another shipment. I was told this when I asked if they were going to get more.

    Hi,

The Villa Borghetti seems to be a TJ’a exclusive imported by Bronco Wines the makers of 2 Buck Chuck. There has been a slow down in the supply chain, many items are behind schedule. Give it some time, it should return to Trader Joe’s
