Skinnygirl Chardonnay 2012

skinnygirlchard2012The 2012 Skinnygirl Chardonnay is sourced from more than one California grape growing AVA. The Skinnygirl wines are the newest additions to Bethenny Frankel’s calorie conscious line of flavored Vodka and pre mixed cocktails. The Skinnygirl wines are 100 calories per 5 oz serving, in case you are wondering, the USDA says there are 123 calories in an average 5 oz glass of wine. Not as big a calorie deduction as the cocktails and Vodka, but if you are having more than one glass of wine the calories can add up. Generally speaking, the higher the alcohol content in wine, the greater the calories. There was a recent study that found that women who drink one glass of wine a day are 30% less likely to be overweight than women who do not drink wine. It is funny, but I never seem to see any studies concerning wine and a man’s waistline. The alcohol content for the Skinnygirl Chardonnay is a low 10%.

The color is a clear, shiny, wheat yellow. The nose is slightly muted, with peach, pear, pineapple, apple and spring flowers showing up. This Chardonnay has a nice bit of weight to the mouthfeel. It tastes of peaches and pears, grapefruit and lime. The mid palate brings along some lemon chiffon and soft dried, tart apricot. The acidity is well balanced and finish lasts a fairly long time.

The 2012 Skinnygirl Chardonnay is a fairly painless way to save a few calories, it tastes like a California Chardonnay and the low calorie and low alcohol content under many circumstances are a plus. If you are Chardonnay  connoisseur, the Skinnygirl may not be your thing, but if pleasing flavor, low calories and a low alcohol rating sound good to you, then the Skinnygirl is a winner.

Don’t tell anyone, but there is absolutely no correlation between the cost of wine and the quality of wine.
