The Story

Hope Family Wines is an excellent family-owned winery that was founded over 30 years ago. Their brands are Austin Hope, Treana, Liberty School, Quest, Troublemaker, and Austin. They make fine wines, and their Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon has been highly rated for years.

The Seek to Find Central Coast Sauvignon Blanc 2023 has an interesting production technique that is seldom found in Sauvignon Blanc in this price range. It is a blend of both stainless steel and oak barrel fermentation.

The usual value of Sauvignon Blanc is tank fermented and aged, while upper-end Bordeaux Blanc (Sauvignon Blanc with a little Semillon) often incorporates oak barrel fermentation and aging.

I checked Hope Family Wines’ website, and they offer a $50 Sauv Blanc with this same technique. I am not suggesting that this $7.99 Trader Joe’s wine is the same as the $50 wine, but this is a technique they are known to perform.

The alcohol content is 13.5%.

The color is more silver than a shade of yellow. The nose is melon and spice, lemon, and green pepper. Also, peach and tropical fruit. The Seek to Find Central Coast Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is both the expected and the unexpected.

This Sauvignon Blanc tastes like peach, apple, melon, exotic spice, pineapple, lemon, and faint green pepper and lime.

The acidity is well integrated and calls you to take the next sip.
