Ravini California Sparkling Wine

The Story

Rack and Riddle is a custom Sparkling wine producer based in Northern California. They specialize in producing Bubbly in the traditional or Champagne style and recently added the ability to produce Charmat Bubbly of Prosecco style. The Ravini is made in the traditional style, which is spelled Metode Traditionnelle, to represent French heritage.

The name Ravini refers to the Hindu god Shiva and alludes to passion.

The Ravini California Sparkling Wine has limited production and tasting notes; the sweetness level of Brut or Extra Dry is missing which is rare for a Bubbly.

The back label mentions flavors of cherry, strawberry, and toasted almonds. The cherry suggests that there is Pinot Noir here, either as a single grape or blend. The almond could come from the first fermentation, where the lees (dead, spent yeast that stays with the wine during aging) were stirred regularly. This gives a nutty/salty sensation.

In Europe, Aldi offers a line of Ravini Italian Sparkling wine and spirits. This California Bubbly does not seem to be related to those wines. Aldi owns the trademark on the Ravini name.

The alcohol content is 12.5%.

The Ravini California Sparkling Wine Tasting Notes

The color is a mix of pale gold and silver. The nose is lemons, brioche, and candy spice and is lightly floral. The nose is subdued. The Ravini California Sparkling Wine has a touch of sweetness but may still be Brut. The flavors are as subtle as the nose but are pleasing.

This Bubbly tastes like tart not so sweet cherry, grapefruit, lemon, sweet spice, tart cranberry, and dried strawberry pieces.

The acidity carries the flavors to a respectable length and is well-balanced.

The Summary

  • The Ravini California Sparkling Wine is an enjoyable $9.99 Aldi Bubbly.
  • It is sleek and balanced and very tasty and made with the same method as French Champagne
