Viale Antica Asolo Prosecco DOCG
Asolo refers to Prosecco sourced from vineyards outside the town of Asolo.
It is a DOCG wine, the G stands for guaranteed quality.
Asolo Prosecco does not taste like the usual Prosecco, not a major change, but a noticeable difference.
$8.99 gets you a good Trader Joe’s Sparkling wine.

Hey
welcome.
Uh
Domain
Dave
here,
cheapwineplanter.com
with
another,
as
always,
uh
value
priced
wine
review,
and
this
time
we've
got
a
uh
$8.99
prosecco
from
Trader
Joe's.
It's
the
Viale
Antica
Azolo
Prosecco
D
O
C
G.
Extra
dry.
$8.99.
Now
the
name
had
a
lot
of
words
in
there
that
most
people
might
not
know.
Uh
Viale
Antica
is
the
brand
name.
Azolo
is
a
place
in
the
Prosecco
region.
Um,
it's
a
small
place
around
the
town
of
uh
Azolo.
Most
Prosecco
is
in
the
value
price
range
is
mass-produced
wine.
They
make
millions
of
gallons
of
that
stuff.
Azolo,
not
so
much.
The
only
to
make
it
a
Zolo,
it
has
to
be
in
the
vineyards
around
this
small
medieval
town.
At
least
it
looks
medieval
according
to
the
paperwork
here.
And
it's
so
you're
getting
you're
not
getting
this
massive
amount
of
grapes
from
all
over.
You're
getting
a
very
smaller
portion
of
grapes,
and
it's
DOCG.
Um,
Italy
has
a
wine
board
that
gives
the
rules
and
regulations
for
all
their
wine.
They're
very
particular
about
their
wines.
Uh
ICG
or
ICP
nowadays,
IGP
nowadays,
that's
the
like
the
entry
level.
I
I
guess
there's
table
wine
that's
below
that,
but
IGP
is
the
one
most
of
us
deal
with,
and
that
has
lesser
standards.
It
tends
to
be
your
value
price
wines.
It's
the
wines
that
you
know
the
wineries
can
don't
have
to
be
as
strict
with,
but
still
make
good
wine.
DOC
is
the
standard,
and
then
DOCG
is
one
above
that.
The
G
is
guaranteed,
and
they
don't
guarantee
you're
gonna
like
it,
but
they
guarantee
the
quality.
And
when
you're
looking
for
wine,
guaranteed
quality
is
a
good,
good,
good
thing.
Now,
uh
Prosecco
is
made
from
the
Galera
grape.
The
Galera
grape
is
indigenous
to
that
area.
They
don't
make
uh
it
doesn't
make
a
really
good
still
wine.
It
it
hits
its
usefulness
with
with
bubbly.
I'm
gonna
take
a
sip.
Extra
dry
just
means
there's
a
little
bit
more
sugar
than
dry
wine,
and
that's
good
because
a
galera
grape
could
use
a
little
bit
more
to
make
it
a
little
bit
more
flavorful.
Americans
used
to
champagne,
and
champagne
is
dry.
I
mean,
if
that's
the
way
it
and
the
drier
the
champagne,
the
better
the
champagne.
So
people,
I
want
my
bubbly
dry.
Well,
not
with
Prosecco,
you
don't.
And
that's
okay
because
the
acidity,
the
natural
acidity
in
the
glare
grape,
when
it
um
when
it
hits
the
extra
sweetness,
the
extra
sugar,
bounces
that
out.
The
two
just
melt
together,
and
you're
getting
what
doesn't
taste
like
a
sweet
wine,
but
you're
getting
more
rounded
uh
fruit
and
citrus
flavors,
which
the
wine
actually
needs.
I
mean,
it's
not
just
oh,
just
do
it
this
way,
it
tastes
better
that
way.
Go
ahead
and
take
another
sip.
We'll
talk
about
what
it
tastes
like.
Maybe
grapefruit,
not
really
too
tart
grapefruit,
but
there's
grapefruit
in
there,
some
tropical
fruit.
Um
what
else
is
there?
I'm
gonna
take
another
sip
because
there's
it's
got
some
really
nice
little
little
flavors
hopping
in
and
out.
I'm
almost
thinking
of
banana,
but
it's
not
quite
banana,
but
you're
getting
these
nice
little
flavors
in
the
wine.
Something
unexpected.
You
know,
it's
not,
you
know,
a
lot
of
times
you're
just
getting
like
uh,
you
know,
grapefruit
and
and
um
you
know
tart
apples
and
that
kind
of
thing
and
bubbly.
This
one
has
some
actual
flavor
to
it.
It's
really
nice.
It's
uh
that's
and
it's
something
that
the
Azola
region
gives
the
wine.
You
know,
I
never
can
tell
the
difference
between
a
DOC
and
a
DOC
uh
G
prosecco.
And
I
take
them,
they
kind
of
taste
good,
real
good,
but
they're
kind
of
the
same.
And
sometimes
they
have
the
DOCG
has
like
extended
period
in
the
tank
to
get
the
bubbles
involved.
But
if
they
do
it
right
just
regularly,
it's
it's
not
that
much
difference.
That's
what
I've
found.
Every
time
I
have
a
Zolo
prosecco,
I'm
getting
different
flavors,
and
that's
kind
of
a
cool
thing.
And
this
one,
which
is
extra
dry,
is
really
really
nice,
really
nice
flavors.
It
tastes
great.
Yep,
it's
good.
It's
the
uh
899
DOCG.
That
means
guaranteed.
It
means
it's
got
quality.
It's
from
Trader
Joe's
890
899,
uh
the
Viale
Antica.
It
actually
has
their
own
website.
It's
like
a
real
place.
Um,
Azolo,
uh,
that's
the
DOCG
area
where
the
grapes
come
from.
Prosecco
DOCG,
G
means
quality,
and
it's
extra
dry,
which
gives
you
a
little
extra
flavor.
So,
what
more
can
you
ask
for,
especially
in
an
$8.99
wine?
So
that's
it
for
me,
uh,
Domain
Dave
Trader
Joe's.
I
got
a
nice
little
bubbly
here
that's
got
some
flavor
to
it.
So,
Adios
Keep
It
Cheap.
I
think
I've
got
a
uh
six
bucks
Trader
Joe's
grower
reserve
of
organic
wine
coming
up
in
a
couple
of
days.
Uh,
we'll
see
what
six
bucks
buys
you.
So,
adios
keep
it
cheap,
and
I'll
be
talking
to
everybody
in
a
couple
days.
Bye
bye.
