Trader Joe’s Reserve Napa Sauvignon Blanc 2025
Napa Valley has made Sauvignon Blanc since Robert Monfavi called it Fumé Blanc to get folks to drink it.
That’s 50 or 60 years.
Since then, New Zealand has made Sauvignon Blanc a hot commodity.
Mondavi and Napa are synonymous, and years later, Napa Sauvignon Blanc still delivers.
Now Trader Joe’s has a $9.99 entry into that world..
Value-priced ain’t half bad!

Hey, welcome. Um, again. Uh, this is Domain Dave, doing what we always do all the time. We've been doing cheapwinefighter.com since 2008, and I don't know how long the podcast has been going, but it's been years. And we what we do is we write about value price wines. Usually wines under 20 bucks. During the holidays, we go a little bit more upscale, but we try to keep it value priced because you know that's a time where you're spending a lot of money, and you you know if you can save a few bucks here and there and still have a good time. Why not? And today we got a Trader Joe's wine. It's $9.99, it's a Trader Joe's reserve, none of the fancy reserve, not grand, not platinum, not diamond, just reserve. Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2025, and it's lot 257. Sometimes I've noticed, and you don't really know unless you like look for it. Sometimes Trader Joe's doesn't have enough of a kind of a wine for this bottling for the whole country. So they might have 257 here and 277 in the south and 267 in the northeast. So they're probably not all the same, they might be from different producers, but they're all Sabium Black. And I don't know that that's happened in this case, but I always see lot numbers on Trader Joe's reserve wines, and like, why? It doesn't seem to make a difference. But here it is, I'm gonna take a sip of this one. Tastes good. Um they've hit they've hidden the uh producer pretty good in this one. I think it's TBA Sellers. Is that what I let me look at the back of it? JBA Sellers. And who that is, I don't know. They have Rutherford as a place of bottling and sellering in these kind of wines. This uh uh 2025 Savion Blanc, you only sell it for a month or two. So I don't know who TBA or JBA Sellers is. Um they might have used a bottling line in Rutherford. Rutherford probably had the capacity and didn't mind the extra money coming in for some work, or it could be a winery from there who's doing these wines, and it's Napa Valley, it's not any of the Napa Valley sub-AVAs, it could be from anywhere. You know, it says Napa Valley on the label, and it could be a single viney, a single plot of a single vineyard, because you can you can get more defined on the label, but you can't put Napa Valley if part of it's from Sonoma or part of it's from Central Coast. So this is a Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc. I was in Napa Valley a little over a year ago. The one thing, um, this is my first time there, and one of the things I was kind of interesting to me, when you would go to one of the wineries for a tasting, they would usually have someone come out as you walked in the door and hand you a nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc before you got down to tasting what they had. So their Napa Value, Savillon Blanc was the welcoming wine, and it's probably a wine, hey, try this out. You know, you might not have because it when you're there's a lot of value-price Savion Blancs that are really pretty good, and so maybe you don't think of Napa all the time, which is kind of why you can think of this Napa one, because it's 10 bucks. It's balanced, it's bright. There's all the things Savion Blanc should be. I mean, New Zealand was a spiky, crazy wine, but was fun to drink. But if it's from the Lower Valley, which is kind of like the home place, and even um Bordeaux or Bordeaux Blanc is Savion Blanc with Semillon, a little bit different because there's a blend there. You want bounce, you want sunshine in a bottle, and that's kind of what you got going here. This is this as I'm tasting this, it reminds me a little bit of Laura Valley. Though Napa Valley isn't the same as Laura Valley. It can get to be 100 degrees in Napa Valley. Luckily, the fog will uh roll in until noon, and it only gets to be 100 degrees till noon to sundown. So it kind of saves it because if it was from sunup to sundown, you couldn't grow these grapes. It's a really nice wine. I don't know who made it. I don't know where what part of Napa Valley it's from. Don't really care too much. It's from Napa Valley. Uh it tastes great. It's kind of kind of um the acidity is kind of um I was gonna say sugary, but it's not sweet. It has that granular taste uh feel to it. And it's got uh um it's got like some coconut milk, it's got uh grapefruit, it's got green apple, it's got some tropical fruit. The flavors are really nice. Uh it's got a decent amount of length to it. I would pair this with um fancy salads. You know, it would go with you know, something a little bit expensive. Um whitefish, seafood, cold, uh, cold shrimp, uh, spicy Asian. This is a wine that you can take to a um BYB and um and not overdo it. I mean, the corkage might cost more than your bottle, which is you know, which isn't so too bad. Because it tastes good, it has good structure, and it would be great with some spicy noodles, I think. Take another sip. Yeah, it's a nice tasting wine. It's got enough complication going on in the flavors to make it interesting. Uh, it's got enough uh structure to to give it length. Yeah, it's a 10 bucks is a solid, it's a solid wine. Pick it up if you see it. It's a Trader Joe's reserve, nothing fancy, just the reserve. Uh Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc uh 2025, and this is uh lot 257. It might be different in your area. And um, what do I got? I've got a um I've got uh I think a Pinot Noir coming up uh that Trader Joe's been has been offering for a good 15, 20 years, and a uh platinum reserve uh GSM from the from Passo Robles. So we'll be talking to you a little bit about that. Adios, keep it cheap. Bye bye.
