Daou The Pessimist Red 2023
The Daou Pessimist is a value-priced red blend-for them!
It sells on the internet for between $18 and $26, but an Illinois wine seller had it this week for $12.
They have a different wine value every week.
This is an extremely tasty wine.
While most people who do not live in Illinois won’t get this bargain, there are bargains everywhere to be had.
The current wine economy is creating bargains.

Hey welcome, Domain Dave here again with another wine review, cheap wine finder. Um we're going a little upscale. The last two months of every year we try to uh during the holidays, we try to you know expand our horizons. Today we have the Dow the Pessimist Red Line 2023. The tagline is a pessimist is never disappointed. Just kind of funny if you ask me. Dow's uh Dow's been around since 2007. I you know, that's less than 20 years ago. I thought they were around forever, and they're currently owned by Treasury Wine Estates who own uh Stag's Leap, um the Grange from Penfolds, they own some big name uh brands, and they own this one too. Though the Dow brothers are still involved in the management and the winemaking, and these are two brothers that made their money in tech and decided they're gonna go to Paso Robo's buy a mountain, and they did. And they I don't know if they planted the grapes there or the vines were already there, but they own a mountain with the vines on them, and they make good wine, and they sold their um winery for a ridiculous amount of money. Um you would have sold your winery too. So here we go, we got this red blend. It's a petite Syrah, Zimpandil Syrah, and a grape called Langren, which is a red grape from Alto Adige. Alto Adige is in the upper um eastern uh corner of Italy. Um, that's where the best uh Pino Goriggio is from. And you go over the mountain and you're in Austria, Germany. I mean, they speak German up there as often as they do Italian. But that's where the Green's from. They must have had it on their, I don't know why they added it. It's just one of those grapes they had, and they went, let's try it. At least that's my version. This is a wine that sells anywhere anywhere from 18 to about 25-26 bucks on the internet. And I found it for 12. Uh local wine, big, big box wine shop. Uh every every um every week they have uh a wine that gets you in the doors. And they sold this wine at half price. It's Benny's if you're in the Chicago Land area, and I'm not sure how long the price is good for. But you know, they have they have sometimes it's a $10 wine for five, and sometimes it's a $25 for $12. So it's um that's the condition the wine market's in right now. They need to move wine. Um they need to move it, and then if it's not moving at the old price, let's see if they can't move it at a better price. So this is a really, really good wine. This is made by the Dow uh brothers, though the name really isn't on it. Their name is if it does, it's Dow is there where it says where it was cellared and and where it was bottled. It was bottled in Sonoma, cellared in Pasarobos, but that's because they don't really own it anymore. And Treasury Wine Estates is doing what you know what's most streamlined or whatever. Taylor sip. This is not in the state wine. They they said they got grapes from all parts of Pasarobos and all the sub-AVAs, and then they uh blended them all together. And uh the the the uh vintage, uh every vintage, the percentage of the grapes, usually it's mostly petitzerrah first, and then Zimfandon, and then Syrah, and then the Langren. But it can change depending on the vintage conditions. Petit Sarah, um, back in the Flaxera days of Spain in the 1800s, in the Rhone Valley of Syrah was having the same problems that uh Bordeaux was having, so they um they tried to um do a blend that would make it more hardy. And about the time they got uh the Petit Surrah, which is also called Duriffe, after the man who did it, they did the botany part of it. Uh, by the time they got it uh stabilized, uh the flaxer thing was over and they didn't need it. But while it's not doing anything in France, it it grows pretty well in um California, and you see it in blends, especially if there's Zimfandel. But tizera and Zimfandel dance together very nice in your glass. It really drinks well. It drinks even at 25 bucks, I think it drinks a little bit above its price tag. At the 12 I got out, it's ridiculous. And there's a richness to it and uh uh depth and the complexity of the flavors. It's not that it's super complex, but there is a richness and there is flavors that pop out when you least expect it, which is what a good wine does. You know, I'm not really you know dissing a wine that just is Johnny One note, it starts out good and it stays good, but a wine that kind of um sneaks up and you add some things as it goes along, is oh yeah, well, well, it's really nice to drink that way. I'm gonna drink a little bit more of this one. It's in French oak barrels um for 10 months, 50% new. The newer the barrel, the more oak influence um it imparts into the wine. So this is a 2023 and it's out now. It's the current vintage. You know, it's 2026. Took three years for it to calm down because it puts a lot of flavor in there. It can be too oaky, and right now it's not oaky at all. You get a little bit of vanilla. French oak doesn't give you all the flavors that um American oak does. Um American oak's where you get the um chocolate, vanilla, those kind of things. But here you get a little bit of that vanilla, a little bit of that, a little bit of that spice, but it just gives it, it just gives it enough flavor just to make it even more interesting. So there you go, it's the uh Dow the Pessimist. Pessimist. I think I just developed a list from drinking. Um 2023. I don't expect everybody to be able to find it for 12 bucks, but it's one of those things where what you want to do is um keep an eye out because wine has to sell, especially the the more expensive wines, they can't wait till next year. The more vintage wines, if they start to back up, they're never gonna straighten it out. So they gotta try to get this year off a little bit. You know, they can they can adjust how many bottles they make next year so they don't have backlogs, but it needs to go, so keep an eye. Uh, before you go to the wine shop, uh, look at the local ads, see what they've got, because you're gonna be surprised what you can find. So that's it for me, domain Dave, cheapwinefinder.com. This is a doll the pessimist red 2023. Um, really good blend. If you can find it, drink it. Audio, skip it cheap.
