Hey, Domain Dave, cheapwinefighter.com again. Got another uh value price wine, went to Costco and found an interesting wine. This is a wine that um almost always receives 90 plus points from like every single wine reviewer and magazine in the world. It currently this is uh it currently has 93 points, which is not too shabby. It's the Kelos uh Cahors Malbec 2022. Um it's from Cahors, which is the south of France. It's been a Malbec region for a long, long time. It's not related to Argentina. Uh here's a little story. In the 1800s, disease, phloxra, pests, everything, uh decimated the French vineyards, and when the French can't get wine, that's a bad thing. Um it's kind of like today, we can't get gas. Oh my god, what's gonna happen? So um in Bordeaux, the vineyards kind of quit because the malbec vineyards or plants, vines were always getting wiped out. They kind of quit growing it. And then later on, like um almost 100 years later, not quite, in Argentina, they found Malbec growing there. It wasn't that surprising, but it was there. They did some tests and they found out it's the same grape that used to be grown, or still is a little bit in Bordeaux, but what's being grown, Malbec was being grown in Argentina is Bordeaux Malbec. So we now got Cahors. Cahors is south of France. It's it's not a fancy area. I mean, it doesn't have big glitzy estates for the most part, doesn't have big wine groups uh owning vineyards there. It tends to be like the way wine in France has been for 75 years, and they grow Malbec, and it's a different strain of Malbec. The grapes are different, I think they're smaller, and the region's called the Malbec called the black wine. It is usually so dark that it's almost takes the red away from it. And there is some, there's some raspberry in there, but there's a lot of black. So that's what this is. This is a cohort's it was$8.99. Uh at Costco, I checked a wine searcher. Wine searcher always gets you an average, and the average elsewhere is 15. So it's kind of half priced at um at Costco for a 93 point wine, and that's not the only place it's 93, it's 90. Everybody's given it points. I'm gonna take a sip. And the reason why everybody's given it points is it's rich, it's dark, it's deep. I don't know if it's the most complex wine there is, but it tastes good. I mean, it's got good flavor, it's got um cassis, it's got blackberry, it's got um licorice, it uh has like oak spice, it has um maybe some strawberry in there, maybe dried strawberry, you know, that that got the flavor but not the sweetness. It is rich. I mean, this this is a rich, smooth, deep wine. The tannins are in there, the tannins are kind of chewy, they're kind of nice. This is a French wine, they don't, you know, they don't neuter their wines, you get what you get. And this is a$8.99 food wine. I mean, serious food wine. Um, you can take it to any place where you'd want a red wine, and this would this would fit. Uh, you're gonna have you're gonna throw some steaks in the grill coming up on Mother's Day. Because this is a dark, this is a dark, bold, not bold, but balanced bold wine. I mean, it it can handle um, you know, it's it's fine for burger. It's$8.99. You're not like you're uh throwing away good wine on it on a hamburger. Not that I would consider that throwing it away, but it's a deep, dark, rich wine with good acidity, good tannins, and it's well made. I mean, you know, I've kind of forgotten a little bit about Argentinian Malbec. I used to, that used to be one of the main staples a couple years ago in the cheap wine finder because it was everywhere. You go to any place and you can find good malbec. And you know, it's uh I don't know, sometimes fads kind of like lessen and you kind of forget about it after a while. But cohorts has always been there. There's no fad here. I mean, it's always been a deep, dark, delicious wine, the black wine. Take a little sip. Yeah, as it opens up, it's even nicer. It's got a it's got a mid-palate. I mean, the smoothness in front starts to get a little bit of tart. Um, the fruit on the on the in the in the mid-pallate. And you get some chewy tannins, like I said, and city just just fine. City just allows everything to roll on. I'm feeling in my mouth, I think that's the tannins. I can chew that. It's really it's it's a wine that kind of um takes takes hold of your palate for$8.99. I mean, it's like, what the heck? I mean, that's this is like there's people are into$40 wines for these kind of uh uh these traits. And here it is, a$8.99. It's the Kalos. Kalos is a stone. Um the vineyards, um what is it, Saint Didier? Uh the vineyards are on the kind of a curve of a river where these stones have washed up when it's flooded, and it's terraced. Uh, it's like a hillside going down the river, and it's on the third terrace, so it's not getting flooded out, but it's still got these ancient stones in the ground, and ancient stones on the ground, when the sun beats down, hold the heat, which is a good thing. So even at night, if it gets cold at night, the stones holding that heat that the you don't damage the grapes or the vines. So there you go. The Kelos Gehers Malbeck 2022. It's a really good wine at a ridiculously low price at Costco. So there you go. Uh, if you're there, pick it up, it's worth a try. So adios, keep it cheap. Domain Dave, cheapwinefetter.com. And I'll be talking to you. Adios, bye bye.
