Aldi Specially Selected Brut Cava
This Cava is from a 130-year-old winery.
Their House Cava is Macebeo (grape) only, rather than the usual 3 traditional grapes.
This wine seems to be a relabeled wine from Torre Oria, a well-established Spanish Bubbly producer.
This Bubbly does not taste like the typical value-priced Cava offerings.
This $8.99 Aldi Bubbly drinks well above its price range.
A good wine (or Bubbly) is a good wine no matter the price!

Hey there. Domain Dave, cheaperwinefighter.com. Like always, do another wine review, cheap one. Uh found this one at Aldi, uh, $8.99. It's one of their specially selected series of wines. Those are um those are wines they get from kind of higher-end wines from the best wine regions of the world. They got Napa, they got Bordeaux, they've got it all over the place. This one is the specially selected Brut Kava. It's non-vintage, like most of it is. Most of those are. And um this is actually a wine they they name who the or the who made the wine. It's uh Torre Oria, which is a winery that's been around since 1897. And they're not, they're in the um Cava Dio, the region for Kava, but they're not in the Penades. The Penades is the hometown uh of Cava, and they're the first one way back when outside of the Pennades. So they have a good long tradition. One of the things around here, what this makes this a very interesting wine is typically speaking, oh another thing is this is a guarda one. A guarda, there are certain classifications in this is the young wine. This one's only been in bottle for nine months. Uh by example, the like the cheapest, I mean that the least uh lengthy uh triage second fermentation in in um champagne is like a year and a half. Here it's nine months, so it's a you know a good deal shorter, but it's under 10 bucks. So and another thing is um Terre Aura, their main brute wine is a Maccabio only wine. This is a Maccabi-only wine, and their main brute wine is nine months and 11.5% alcohol. So this seems to be this 130-year-old winery. This seems to be their kind of like their their main wine, their their house wine. Which is you so you're not getting leftovers here. You're getting the main stuff. Let me take a sip of this. Oh, good. I said that this is megabillo only, but it it is traditionally, and and often it's 30%, 30%, 30%, or 33%, 30%, 32%, 33% of perlata exarlo, which there's like eight different ways to pronounce that one. It's a really old word. Um it's got a dot in it, it goes back long ways. And and macabio. And maccabio is also called uh veillura. It's like in other places where you can get a still white wine from it. So this is gonna have a this is not gonna have the three-grape blend that most wines you pick up in the value price have. This is gonna be a little bit different, it's gonna taste different because there's two grapes missing, and that means a lot. And the one thing about this I really like is let me take a sip. The flavor is softer. There's maybe some nectarine, maybe a hint of honey, green apple, uh, maybe some tropical fruit. Kind of all kind of balanced, and the acidity is really nice. It's got decent length. It tastes different. You know, I've heard long everybody tell me of the people who uh people who are judges at wine uh wine festivals, is that the one that tastes different than everybody else is the one that uh rates the highest? Because all the other ones are kind of the same and it's hard to rate them. This is different. If you like bubbly, and you like kava, and kava is made the exact same way as champagne. Roseco is tank ferment uh uh fermented. They put it in these huge um, they put the grapes with some uh well the juice, the first fermentation in these tanks with um sugar and yeast, clamp it down, turn the pressure on, and then maybe a month, maybe you know, month and a half, month two, it turns into wine. Here you get nine months, it's a little bit different, but this is made the same way as um champagne, and it tastes good, it tastes different, it is delicate for cobbler isn't always delicate, and because it's a younger one and the flavors are still bright and shiny, and it's a brute which is on the um drier side. It's made by um like I said, made by wineries that's been around for 130 years. And it's under 10 bucks, it's nine dollars. And it I like it. I mean, this is um a really good balcony, back porch. Sipper. I mean, um, yeah, you could have you can have it with uh hors d'oeuvres and that type of thing. Doesn't really have that kind of a city that bites cuts through things. It's this is really a sipper for nine bucks, a classy Spanish bubbly Barcelona Bubbles. I don't know. This might be the way to go. So there we go. So this is uh the $8.99 Aldi Special Selected Brutcava from uh Torre Orea. They're not a brand I've heard of before, but I wouldn't uh you don't always get every single one, and a lot of these companies sell their wines different places and don't even get the United States, and that might be why they sold it to um Aldi to get their uh put in the market here. So there you go. It's a really nice um kava at a really nice price. It's the Aldi specially selected uh fruit kava. You know, got a kind of an ordinary label, nothing nothing that makes it stand out until you put some in your glass. So audio, skip it cheap. This is Domain Dave. I'll be talking to everybody in a bit. I've got a Central Coast GSM coming up, and we'll I'll be talking to you then.
