Kirkland Signature Côtes Du Rhône Villages 2025

This GSM wine is one you wouldn’t think twice about paying $17.49 instead of $7.49.

A solid, well-made, tasty Southern Rhône Valley Red blend.

The winemaker, new this vintage, is from a Châteauneuf-du-Pape winery.

He did an excellent job on this Costco value-priced Red.

Hey welcome Domain Dave here at cheapwinefinder.com. I'm doing what we always do. We've got a value-priced, uh this one's a real value-priced wine. Um it's the Kirkland Signatures Coats Dorone Villages 2025. $7.49. And Costco's been offering this wine since at least 2015. Now I don't go back that far with Costco, I've only been a convert um for the last three, four years. But um this wine has been a favorite and cheap winefinder started in 2008, and back in those days, you wanted a quality, almost assured red wine under under 20 bucks, under 15 bucks, you would get a Cote d'Aron wine. They had good standards. Uh, it was a GSM, probably. It doesn't have to be a GSM, but Grenache Syrah Morvedre. Grenache is dark and sleek, uh Syrah is fat and juicy, and Morvedre adds another color just to add every just add a little bit extra mystery to the whole thing. But it's somewhere along the way, um France didn't want to be that your cheap wine dealer, you know. They they were they were big back then nowadays. I can't think of one. I mean, there are a couple of people who are reliable, but you have to go seek them out in wine shops. You gotta go going through the French aisle to try to figure out who's who, and that's kind of a shame. Um, you know, happened in New Zealand, not New Zealand so much, Australia, South Africa, Italy, Spain. You know, back in those days, there would be Robert Parker Jr., the leading wine um uh critic. You know, you you go to the under $15 section, and there would be maybe a third of them, would be 90 plus wines, and that's kind of gone now. California kind of took over for the value price, but I'm gonna take a sip of this. At this Coast Daron Villages is a wine you've known in the past. They changed um winemakers this year. Um, I have all the information in the names um on the website, the cheapwinefight.com website in the review. And the winemaker for this is from a pretty fancy uh Chateau Neuf du Pop uh winery, which is a uh Rhone Valley crew wine, which is the high end. And so he's making a regular just villages, is how it works is there's a regular go to Rhone's AOC, which is from the general area, villages is from a a group of villages that is said to have the best vineyards around it, and then there's a named village where it comes just from that one village and the hills around that village, and then there's crew. But I've found that you get a good winemaker, you can just make the AOC, the regular one of the villages, and it and it might be if you like his style, you might like it better than some of the higher end ones. That's one thing about France. Uh, they're very much in a terroir into place, but a good one good winemaker is a good winemaker. I'm gonna go see. It's 2025. Um there doesn't seem to be enough time to get oak in there and make it bounce. It's 15% alcohol, um, which is you know a little hefty. Gives a good body. I I don't taste the uh burn the heat. You know, some wines can't hold the alcohol, some wines can. This one can hold it fairly well. Little extra body is actually welcome rather than you know look down upon. This drinks well above its $7.49 price tag. I mean, um a Coutureon Villages from a uh Chateau Nantes du Pop winemaker is kind of a nice nice combination. And this is uh this is not a flashy wine, but it's really a solid, well-made wine. And it's um it's it's priced as a porch pounder, you know, because something you set out back and sip and really enjoy it. Not that you can't do that with this. You definitely can. It's got enough flavor, got enough structure, got enough interest that you can, but it seemed to be a little bit more serious than that. It seems to be um you know, I usually say like these inexpensive wines, if you're gonna pair them, comfort food. But this one's more like um a roast, a fancy stew, venison, something. This is something that will elevate the food, not just be nice to drink along with it. So there you go. $750 for really nice uh wine. This is the Kirkland signatures Coast to Rowan Villages 2025. Coast Rowan Villages is a step up, and having a uh, and I don't know, I didn't I never tasted the old winemaker, so I don't know there's a major difference between the two, but having a uh Chato enough to pop um winemaker make the wine for you for uh and come in at this crazy good price, and I think it's uh 50% uh or more uh Grenache, and then uh maybe about 30% Syrah, the rest 20% more vegetables. It might is around what it should be. So there you go, Adios, keep it cheap, domain day, and I have a uh goat, I have a uh GSM from the Central Coast coming up from Trader Joe's. So we'll try that one in a couple days. So adios, keep it cheap. Bye bye.
