Trader Joe’s Platinum Reserve Napa Brut Rosé (2026)

I thought this Bubbly was just a release of last year’s Bubbly, but it is a different grape blend.

It is a mix of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay; last year it was simply Pinot Noir.

California wine sales are down significantly; wineries are selling off wines that have been stockpiled.

Is this one of those wines, or is this a value-priced wine that is priced accordingly?

Well, take a $14.99 chance and find out for yourself.

Hey, welcome Domain Dave, cheapwinefinder.com. Doing another um value price wine review in November, so we're going upscale. And this is upscale, but not really. It's the Trader Joe's Platinum Reserve Napa Valley Brute Rose in 2026. I put that uh number on there because this is a wine that came out about this time last year. Um, and at first I thought, is this just you know, it's been they're non-vintage wines, they're they don't have uh year dates on them, so you can keep them around for a while. I mean, these wines will last a while. I mean, how long will wine last? It depends on how you uh how you keep it, and it depends on the wine, but this one you could do that, it wouldn't be that much different one year for the other. And another thing is it's uh what's the lot number on it? Lot 128, and last year's uh wine was 128, was 128, too. So I'm thinking this is the same wine, but then I double-checked, and last year's was a Pinot Noir, uh Brute Rose made of 100% Pinot Noir, and this one is a uh Brute Rose of Pinot Noir with Chardonnay. So it's a different wine. Um, and then there's a telltale thing on the Fairless Flyer report on this that said this is a wine that the quality should sell for two, three, and four times the price, which is um you know, it's it gets up there. We're talking about twice it'd be 30 and four times it'd be 60. Um, and for a non-vintaged wine, even from California, that's a little bit high, but that's and when you get into reserve wines. I mean, you can get all sorts of um California bubbles for under 20 and sometimes closer to 10 than 20. There's only a handful that are well that go above that. And I'm gonna take a sip of this one. It's produced by Rack and Riddle. Uh, this one's out of Healdsburg, uh, California in Sonoma. And um this is Napa Valley. Um, Pinot Noir in Napa Valley is almost all in Canaris and a lot of Chardonnay too, but there's other areas uh in Napa that do Chardonnay very well too. But you got to figure the Pinot's from Canaris, and you know, it might be very easy just to get the Chardonnay from there too, and that's it's actually a good thing, not a bad thing. Um so if you're gonna have a um brute rose from Napa, you're gonna get it mostly from Carn Carneros. Now, Rack and Riddle is a specializes in bubbly. Uh they do mostly uh traditional method, the champagne style, which is this is champagne style, but they also do charmat, which is um uh prosecco, and I think they can do a couple other things too. Um and what they what usually happen, they have over 200 companies that have them make their sparkling wine. 200. I don't know if you can name 200 uh sparkling wines from California, which means they make most of them. I mean, uh I think that it's a shorter list for the who they don't make. Put the other sip. Now they kind of have it two ways where the winery that hires them to put the bubbles in there can either use their grapes and then they do what they got to do to the grapes for the process, or they have uh contract carriers, I mean vineyards out there where they can um, if you want to come to them and you want to, hey, I want to make a I want you to make a bubbly for me, you can pretty much tell them what they you want and they'll make it for you. And they'll call the vineyard, they'll bring them in. I mean, I wouldn't do that if I were you because you're gonna lose a lot of money. Because right now wine's not selling and you don't have a distributorship uh to sell it. But if you're a company and you want to give you did really great and you want to give everybody a bottle of wine with your own label on it, I mean, that's what happens out there. So that's kind of what Drack and Riddle is all about. So Chardonnay, Pinot Noir. Uh the bottle is kind of got in the glass, it's kind of an amber pink in the glass. There's a silver kind of a silver glow to it, kind of nice. The nose is um kind of delicate and crisp, and it's got uh it's got like um cherry, grapefruit, brioche. You know, it's just uh just a nice pretty nose, a little bit floral to it. I'm gonna take another size. This is a good tasting wine. It is crisp on the on the palate. Uh normally I don't get cherry as much on uh champagne style wines or or traditionally, you're not supposed to say champagne when you talk to them about these wines. I don't get cherry, but I get the cherry, I get that fruit here. I also get grapefruit and maybe some nectarine and some nice spice. It's not exactly candy spice, but it doesn't bite either. The acidity is really good. The acidity is in the pocket, it doesn't bite, it doesn't uh it just doesn't make itself known, but it's there and it allows the flavors to kind of linger a while, which is kind of nice for a brute sham uh traditional wine. I can't stop sipping it. I mean it's really that good. And it's easy, it's not a hard wine to sometimes you like the you know a good wine that's kind of hard to get your head around. This one's simple. You drink it, it tastes great. I mean, this is it a $15 wine that it is $30, $45, $60. I don't know. I mean, and here's why I don't know. Because anybody who is looking for a wine in the like the $45 and $60 category is buying champagne, they're not buying California wine. Just there's so like I don't know. I I love the I love the $15 stuff. I don't know a thing about the $20 to five or $45 stuff. I mean, every so often you get to taste it and what have you, but so is it of that caliber? It just might be. So there you go. This is this is a New Year's Eve worthy wine. This is should be on your table at Thanksgiving, uh, maybe after the meal. Yeah, this is a good wine. This is Trader Joe's uh Platinum Reserve Napa Valley Brute Rose in 2026. It's different than 2025, and it tastes really good. I recommend it. I can't stop sipping it. It's one of those wines that you don't want to put down. So uh adios, keep it cheap, and I'll be talking to everybody in a couple days with another Thanksgiving wine. Adios, bye bye.
