$15 Single Vineyard Willamette-Trader Joe’s Platinum Reserve Eola Springs Vineyards Pinot Noir 2024

Hey welcome. Domain Day from CheapWine Planner.com. And today we've got a um really interesting wine and a wine that might indicate something we'll get to later. Um this is half the title. I'll tell everybody I'll I'll explain. Uh Trader Joe's Platinum Reserve Iola Springs Vineyard, Pinot Noir 2024. That's all I could fit in. Google uh makes you limit your word uh the number of characters when you do titles. This is actually from the Iloa Amity Springs AVA in Willamette Valley, Oregon. And this is uh I don't know, just maybe a half hour or an hour southwest of Portland. It's a I think they're celebrating their 20th anniversary in uh Iola Amity uh Hills AVA. Uh it's not the oldest one, it's this century. And it's $14.99 at Trader Joe's. Typically speaking, when you get a value prize through Lammock Valley, Pinot Noir, it's a taste of Willamette Valley. It's it's from multiple vineyards in the area, which is fine because the vineyard quality in Willamette Valley is high. This is a single vineyard. The wineries NW wines, they um they do custom crush and they have a bunch of brands. Uh Highland, uh Highland Park, I think it is, and there's a couple others, and I'm drawing a blank on it. And actually um Pasta Brown uh gets buys grapes from them, and so does uh Brooks, who are both high-end uh Lamet Valley producers of Pinot Noir. I'm gonna go take a sip. Yeah, it's good. Um last year in in the US and not just not just wine in California, they were down $1.2 billion in sales. Now they still did $70 billion above $70 billion, but you don't want to lose in any year $1.2. So they're still going. People are still buying, but it's going in the wrong direction. Back in uh 2008 when that subprime loan um catastrophe happened to the economy, Trader Joe's had more bargain wines than you ever saw in your life. There are $50 wines selling for $10. There's $25 wine selling for five. We're not there yet. That's not happening right now. But we've got this what is a NW Wines owns the vineyard. They own multiple vineyards throughout um Lambon Valley. And they own the single vineyard. Oh, and uh it's an interesting single vineyard. The soil in there is uh sediment, which means it was on the bottom of an ocean at one time. It's glacial, which means it was pushed down from Canada, and it's also volcanic. So there's been a lot of activity here, and it gives the soil a really unique and for the vines a flavor. There is this is a unique area. And the soil is what the grapes are all about. You know that with your tomato plants in the backyard and your cucumbers. I'm taking their sip. So they um NW made the wine. Uh what's the name? They had a uh a winery that they said it was made by Cultivin Cellars. That's them. That's one of the what that's one of their that's one of their entities. So this is a basically an estate wine in a single vineyard that is not it is, but it's the Trader Joe's wine on top of it. There are other wines close to this. There's um but this Iola Spring Vineyards, it they've they've had wines from them before, but this is kind of unique for a single vineyard Lamont Valley wine is fifteen dollars. It is typically twice that price and maybe more. Now we don't know everything. Let me take another sip. One thing that's very important to uh buyers of high-end Pinot Noir is which clones are used. And Pinot Noir clones are well known for the people in the know. Uh clone six and clone nine go together well. And you and people are fans of that. People are fans of different count uh combinations of clones. We don't know what that is. $15 wine, we're not gonna know. But it is as a single veneered wine, it might be a mishmash of clones, or it might be something more specific, we don't know. And at 15 bucks, you don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Whatever that means. I've never had a horse. It's calmed down when I first had it. The spice was kind of um the the the the spice really it's an exotic kind of sharp spice, and it was taken over. Now it's kind of calmed down. I had it open for an hour before I drank it, but right now it's it's smoothed out, it's just complicated and lovely taste. Yeah, this is a recommended wine. Uh this Trader Joe's Platinum Reserve Yellow Springs Amity uh YOLO Amity uh AVA Trader Joe's 15 bucks. Yeah, this is a good one. I would just buy it. You learn a little bit about uh Lamette Valley, you learn about the AVA, you uh learn a bit about what I end or I end Pinot Noir tastes like without spending the money to actually you know the that you would normally have to do. So this is a uh this is a definite good wine to buy. Open it up, let it smooth out, and you're gonna have a really nice Pinot Noir. So adios, keep it cheap, I'll be talking here a couple days.
