In the 2021 review, we identified the producer, but Aldi hid its tracks this time. Aldi owns the Brand name, that way if they need to change the producer their well-regarded wine brand keeps its name.

Sonoma is a vast growing region and several locations excel at growing Pinot Noir grapes some should stay away from trying to grow Pinot Noir. We have zero information on the wine we have to refer to the brand’s reputation. This brand is well thought of, their 2021 Pinot received 93 points by a reputable wine reviewer.

There is a Peaks and Tides Sonoma County Pinot Noir and the Peaks & Tides Sonoma County Pinot Noir 2022. The Sonoma Coast wine comes from a single AVA, while this Pinot Noir comes from a larger area. both sell for $12.99.

Aldi has been slow at introducing new wines, so we are reviewing this new vintage to check on the continued quality level.

This Pinot Noir has an alcohol content of 14.2%. Pinot Noir is a more delicate, lighter-bodied wine that does not always hold up to higher alcohol. About 15 years ago a Pinot Noir at 13% would seem high, today 14%+ is common. Climate change is real when it affects your wine drinking.

The Peaks & Tides Sonoma County Pinot Noir 2022 Tasting Notes

The color is a see-through garnet. The nose is ripe cherry, herbs, interesting spice, crushed fall leaves, oak spice, dried strawberry, and a soft floral edge. It has that funky cool nose that only a Pinot Noir can have. The Peaks & Tides Sonoma County Pinot Noir 2022 is Classic California Pinot Noir, not bad for $12.99.

This Pinot Noir tastes like black cherry, a strange, but intriguing spice, sweet plum, and a slight rough oak spice. The mid-palate adds tart cranberry, faint bitter chocolate, orange zest, and pomegranate.

The tannins are chewy and the acidity is balanced giving this Pinot good length.

  • Modern value-priced focused on red fruit flavor and left subtly behind, it sells, but it is not my style.
