The Peaks & Tides Sonoma County Chardonnay 2023 is a $10.99 Aldi exclusive. This wine was previously sourced from the Sonoma Coast.
The Story
Aldi typically owns the brand names of their wines and then contracts with a winery to make the wine. The Sonoma Coast version of this wine was made by Delicato (Gnarly Head, Coppola), and this Sonoma County bottling is made by Plata Wine Partners.
Plata Wine Partners has over 20,000 acres of Coastal Vines in California, with 1,400 acres located within the AVA of Sonoma County. Plata’s vineyards are all certified sustainably farmed; however, no accreditation is mentioned on the bottle.
The back label mentions French oak conditioning. The Sonoma County version is $1.00 more expensive than the Sonoma Coast AVA version, but then again, everything is more expensive this year.
The alcohol content is 13.8%.
The Peaks & Tides Sonoma County Chardonnay 2023 Tasting Notes
The color is a golden yellow. The nose is lemon, melon, apple, pear, honey, guava, dried pineapple, and a floral note. The Peaks & Tides Sonoma County Chardonnay 2023 has an interesting display of citrus and fruit flavors. It reminds me of Chardonnay that is half malolactic fermented and half not.
This Chardonnay tastes like lemon and vanilla, exotic spice, pear, apple, sour stone fruit, coconut milk, and grapefruit.
The acidity is nicely balanced and the flavors have plenty of room to unfold.
The Summary
- The Peaks & Tides Sonoma County Chardonnay 2023 is an interesting, well-made Chardonnay.
- It some some oak, more for adding an additional flavor than a butter bomb.
- This is an Aldi bargain!
