OSCS-BS-WEBThe Old Soul Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 is Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Merlot sourced from Oak Ridge estate vineyards in the Lodi AVA of  California’s Central Valley. To be a single varietal wine, the grape shown on the label must make up a minimum of 75% of the wine. Old Soul is one of Oak Ridge Winery’s labels, it is the oldest winery in Lodi and they have 5 generations of vineyard and wine-making experience. This Cabernet was fermented and aged in 70% American and 30% French oak. The alcohol content is 13%.

The color is an almost opaque garnet red. The nose is blackberry, raspberry, cinnamon, toasted vanilla, strawberry and red Twizzlers. This is a combination old school steakhouse Cabernet Sauvignon and a sleek, ripe, but not too extracted New School Cab. The flavors are rich, ripe, blackberry, with a bit of blueberry, licorice and Dove chocolate. The mid-palate adds cranberry, French vanilla and plum. The tannins are smooth (for a California Cabernet Sauvignon) and the acidity is right in the pocket. The finish is huge and long.

The Old Soul Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 is a real deal California Cab, big, balanced, tons of flavor, good oak influence, with enough tannins and acidity to hold it all together. The list price is $14 and that makes the Old Soul Cabernet is solid bang for the buck Red. Pair it with anything from burgers to filets on the Weber grill or sip glass while sitting around the fire pit. This is a reasonably priced Cabernet Sauvignon that drinks very well.
