Mionetto Prosecco Brut D.O.C.

60579The Mionetto Prosecco Brut D.O.C is a non-vintage (they blend wine from different vintages together to get a more consistent flavor profile) Sparkling wine made from Glera grapes grown in near the town of Treviso in the Prosecco DOC of Italy. The Glera grape used to be known as the Prosecco grape, but since the growing region and the actual wine was also know as Prosecco, they thought it was too confusing and changed the name of the grape. Prosecco is made differently than Champagne style wine, with Champagne they get the bubbles by adding yeast (2nd fermentation) to each individual bottle, while with Prosecco the 2nd fermentation occurs in large vats. The wines are less yeasty and intense and tend to be lighter and crisper. The alcohol content is 11%.

The color is extremely pale butter yellow with a hint of green. The nose is sugary apple with hints of lime and pear. The bubbles are extremely intense, they cause your tastebuds to tingle. This is a light, crisp Sparkling wine, it tastes of green apple, Del Monte canned pears and lime. There is a long, slightly sweet finish.

The Mionetto Prosecco is a very appealing Sparkling wine, well balanced, wonderful flavors, maybe a little too light to pair well with anything other than dessert or Brunch. This Prosecco drinks very well on its own and would make a terrific holiday party Bubbly. You should be able to find it selling for under ten bucks from your local wine shop or Trader Joe’s.
