The 2009 Maryhill Winemaker’s White is a blend of 35% Chardonnay, 27% Viognier, 25% Sauvignon Blanc and 13% Semillon sourced from vineyards in the Columbia Valley of Washington State. Maryhill Winery is family owned, was founded in 1999 and was recently named “2009 Washington State Winery of the Year”. This is a fairly small production wine, only 3854 cases produced. The wine was fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks and the alcohol content is 13.2%.
The color is extra virgin olive oil yellow. The nose is orange, lime and lemon, with strong floral notes and a late hit of tart apple. There is a substantial mouth feel, fresh squeezed lemon and lime start things off, followed by a mix of honey and pineapple, then Jonathan apple. The mid palate brings a little dusty minerality, along with apricot and sugary tangerine. There is good, balanced acidity running through the body of the wine, the finish is light, but does not go away.
The Maryhill Winemaker’s White is custom made to be served chilled on a warm summers night. This is a solid, honest wine, well made, boutique production and affordable, you should be able to find it for under $10.
