The Maison Barboulot Cinsault Rosé 2023 is a $5.99 Trader Joe’s import exclusive, they also sell the Maison Barboulot Cabernet/Syrah.
This Vin de Pays/IGP wine is a step below the French AOC-designated wines. These wines are representative of the region but are grown and produced to less stringent standards, which is not a problem with a $5.99 wine.
Cinsault is a grape used in the Languedoc and with the Rosé wines of Provence.
Maison Barboulot wine labels look like vintage French labels but say things such as “give me good wine” and “drink if the weather is good”. It is a joke for those who can remember their High School French.
This a 2023 vintage so there is not much aging (Spring of 2024) but aging is not necessary for a bright, juicy Rosé meant to be consumed within hours of purchase. The alcohol content is 12.5%.
The Maison Barboulot Cinsault Rosé 2023 Tasting Notes
The color is on the copper side of pink. The nose is bright and ripe, there is spice, red berries, coconut milk, a hint of cream, and a floral edge. The Maison Barboulot Cinsault Rosé 2023 is balanced and tasty, just complex enough.
This Rosé tastes like strawberry, watermelon, soft spice, tropical fruit, and slightly jammy raspberry. It does not transition on the mid-palate but does not need to, what is upfront flows throughout the length of the wine.
The acidity is very well-controlled.
