2012maggiovineyardssauvblancThe 2012 Maggio Family Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from more than one grape growing AVA in California. Maggio Family Vineyards is one of the labels owned by Oak Ridge Winery, the oldest operating winery (1934) in Lodi, California and Maggio is one of the 3 families that own the winery. The Sauvignon Blanc was “Produced and bottled byMaggio Vineyards, which indicates that they crushed, fermented, aged and bottled this wine, but probably did not grow the grapes. The 2012 grape vintage in California is one of best in several years. This Sauvignon Blanc is unoaked and has an alcohol content of 13.5%. You should be able to find it for $10.

The color is golden yellow, clean and clear. The nose is light and delicate, pineapple, peach, sugary lemon with a floral edge.  This is a silky, tart, light bodied Sauvignon Blanc. It tastes of   tart grapefruit, slightly sweet pineapple, lemon with some subdued citrus SweeTart. The mid palate brings a light brush of minerality, along with peach and kiwi. The acidity is well balanced and will help the Maggio Sauv Blanc do well with food. The finish is tart and very long.

The Maggio Family Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc is a terrific summer patio wine. It is a bit too light and delicate to pair with spicy, bold foods, but would work very well with savory salads and cold shrimp or oysters. This Sauv Blanc is made for hot weather, it has an adult lemonade component, that would be very refreshing when the sun is bearing down.
