The Kirkland Signature Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2024 is a wine currently available at Costco, selling for $19.99. Costco has offered this wine (different vintages in the past), and this is the lowest price in several years.
The Story

The back label says this Cabernet Sauvignon was cellared and bottled by D C Fynt MW, a company involved with Costco and other store brands. “ Cellared and bottled by typically means they “handled” bottling, not wine production in the vineyard or at the winery.
Stags Leap District is a high-end growing region in Napa Valley, and they probably do not want folks to know who is actually involved in this bargain-priced wine.
The reason Stag’s Leap District is spelled out in the name is their is a very famous Stags Leap Winery with a very similar name as the AVA and they do not want to suggest this is a Stags Leap Winery product.
Stags Leap District is one of Napa’s smaller AVAs with 14 wineries and 8 growers. There are no bad or so-so vineyards, so the grapes for this bottle came from prime ground.
It seems that Costco has offered a Stags Leap District wine since the 2014 vintage, so they must have a steady, reliable supplier.
This wine from a high-end AVA does not have to be an expensive wine, selling at a value price. Or it could be fancy grapes produced into wine with more affordable techniques. There are many options.
The alcohol content is 14.5%.
The Kirkland Signature Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon Tasting Notes
The color is an almost black cranberry red. The nose is of extracted blackberry and raspberry, spice, vanilla, and soft herbs, with plum and strawberry jam. The Kirkland Signature Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon is intense on the palate with bold flavors.
This Cabernet Sauvignon tastes like blackberry, bitter coffee, a slap of spice, blood orange, pomegranate, and a hint of vanilla, with dusty tannins and a late hit of blueberry.
The acidity allows the flavors to fully unfold and stay with you.
The Summary
- The Kirkland Signature Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon is a fun-to-drink $20 wine.
- You rarely get a Stags Leap District wine anywhere near this price point (Trader Joe’s just released their own $18 Stags Leap Cab).
- It is a solid Cabernet Sauvignon with depth and complexity seldom found in this price range.
