The Kirkland Signature Asolo Prosecco (Bottled Nov 2024) is a $7.69 Costco exclusive. This Kirkland Signature Asolo Prosecco is designated a Prosecco Superiore DOCG.
The Story
DOC Prosecco is farmed from vineyards in the flat section of the Prosecco region in the Veneto area. The DOCG Prosecco is produced from grapes in the hilly sections such as Asolo and Valdobbiadene. The DOCG Prosecco tends to be more expensive than the DOC, but not here.
The Kirkland Signature Asolo Prosecco is an excellent choice for those looking to enjoy a high-quality sparkling wine at an affordable price.
The G in DOCG stands for guaranteed. The rules and regulations for vineyard and Sparkling wine production are stricter, and the governing wine body checks to see if protocols are in place to conform to them. They do not guarantee you will like the wine that’s up to you.
Prosecco is produced with the Charmat Method, which was invented in the late 1800s. The grapes are fermented to the House style for the first time. The fermented juice is then transferred to huge pressurized vats where a measured amount of yeast and sugar are added, and the pressure is turned on. In a few weeks to a few months, the 2nd fermentation is complete, and the pressure in the vat incorporated the bubbles into the wine.
The back label of the Kirkland Signature Asolo Prosecco (Bottled Nov 2024) shows Botter as the producer. They have been in the Italian wine business since 1928.
I put the date of this Prosecco’s bottling in the title (Nov 20024) because Charmat fermentation vats are so large that only the wine that is needed for immediate sale is bottled. The rest of the wines are kept in the vat until needed, which keeps the juice fresh. Prosecco will keep in the bottle for several years, but it is always welcome to get the Bubbly fresh.
This is an Extra Dry Sparkling Wine, which indicates it is slightly sweet, this is the level at which Italians like their Prosecco. The Glera grape can use a little sweetness to shine.
The alcohol content is 11%.
