The J L Quinson Le Rosé French Fizz sells for $7.99 at Trader Joe’s. The brand is J.L. Quinson, a wine company located in the south of France since 1904.

The Story

J L Quinson Le Rosé French Fizz

J L Quinson produces a wide range of wines, from Chablis to Provence Rosé and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but it appears they no longer have a website. I wonder if they are still an independent winery or a brand of another company.

The J L Quinson Le Rosé French Fizz is designated as a Wine of France, meaning the grapes were sourced from than one growing region. French wine is typically about pride of place; these wines from multiple regions are more likely to be made for export.

Trader Joe’s says that the grapes used were a blend of Red grapes typically found in the south of France. Many of these grape varietals are rare for California wine, so this should be a unique and interesting blend.

The bottle has an old-school soda bottle cap, but it comes with a snap enclosure to keep the fizz in between sips.

The Fizz in the name means that this is a Frizzante Bubbly. A full-on Bubbly may have 6 bars of pressure in the bottle, which is way they have a cork and a cage to keep the cork in position despite the pressure.

A Fizz or Frizzante Bubbly has 1 1/2 or 2 bars of pressure, so a soda pop top works since the pressure is closer to a carbonated soft drink than Champagne.

The J L Quinson Le Rosé French Fizz Tasting Notes

The color is Barbie pink with a hint of orange. The nose is dried strawberry, a little minerality, tangerine, soft spice, and lightly floral. J L Quinson Le Rosé French Fizz is a dry Bubbly with tight, sleek flavor.

This Rosé tastes like pink lemonade, strawberry (not sweet), soft spice, and nectarine.

The acidity is well-balanced.

The Summary

  • The J L Quinson Le Rosé French Fizz is a far more elegant Bubbly than I was expecting.
  • This is not a complicated wine, but what is in the glass delivers.
  • An excellent summer sipper, give it a good chill.
