The Granite Coast Organic Monterey Rosé 2024 is available exclusively at Trader Joe’s for $5.99. A check of CWF archives shows we reviewed the 2013 Granite Coast Red blend; that wine was $4.99.
The Story
The Granite Coast Vineyards label is owned by Scheid Family Vineyards. They are a large family-owned wine business that was founded in 1972, a good ten years before Monterey became an AVA. Scheid’s vineyards are all located in Monterey County.
Scheid has produced many private-label wines for Trader Joe’s and Aldi over the years. They are leaders in the Central Coast is sustainability in both the vineyard and wine production, along with transitioning many of their vineyards to certified organic.
Trader Joe’s does not indicate which grape varietals are in this Rosé. Actually, other than organic grapes are used, we know nothing about this wine.
Usually, I would mind being given such little information, but with a 6-buck, certified organic Rosé, I won’t complain.
Scheid has organic vineyards, so the Granite Coast Organic Monterey Rosé 2024 may be made from Estate grapes, but there is no information available to confirm that.
The alcohol content is 12.5%. For reference, Scheid produces Aldi’s Don’t Mind If I Do low-calorie, low alcohol wines.
The Granite Coast Organic Monterey Rosé 2024 Tasting Notes
The color is very pale pink; there is almost more golden yellow than pink. The nose is cherry hard candy, pink lemonade, a little candy spice, and a light floral edge. The Granite Coast Organic Monterey Rosé 2024 is light-bodied, with a touch of complexity on the palate.
This Rosé tastes like black cherry, exotic spice, ripe plum, orange zest, and stone fruit. The acidity is balanced and does its function well.
The Summary
- The Granite Coast Organic Monterey Rosé 2024 is a very sippable $5.99 wine.
- It tastes better chilled than at room temperature, so keep it on ice.
- It sips above its price tag.
