The Story

Foggy Veil Paso Robles Grenache 2023

The Miller Family have been farming in California since the 1940s and have had vineyards since the 1970s. They own some of the most highly regarded vineyards in the Central Coast AVA.

Their Central Coast Wine Services is a custom crush facility that has produced wine for Trader Joe’s for decades. In the 2010s, it seemed that they had a hand in a quarter of Trader Joe’s wines.

The Paso Robles AVA is located about halfway between Santa Barbara and San Francisco. The winemaker are known for doing things their way and don’t follow trends.

The region is famous for top-notch Cabernet Sauvignon and Rhone Valley-style wines.

Grenache is a grape from the Rhone Valley and Northeast Spain, where it is called Garnacha.

As a value-priced store brand, there is no production information available. I don’t know why somebody couldn’t write up a one-page summary it would not add to the cost.

Grenache is a dark, sleek wine that is often blended with Syrah; the sleek Grenache and the juicy Syrah complement each other.

We reviewed a Trader Joe’s Grand Reserve Grenache a year ago; it too was a 2023 vintage, so where was this wine for the last year?

This Grenache tastes like blackberry, a little herbs, some fizzy spice, raspberry, and licorice.

The tannins are soft, and the acidity is controlled.
