The Ferrari-Carano Dry Sangiovese Rosé Sonoma 2021 is a blend of 75% Sangiovese, 12.3% Pinot Noir, 4.37% Grenache, 2.78% Black Muscat, 2.29% Syrah, 1.57% Zinfandel, and 0.79% other. I love how exact they are of the grape percentages and that they didn’t know exactly what was the grape varietal for 0.79% of the grapes. Some of these older vineyards have grapes planted and nobody can remember what was planted.

Ferrari-Carano is still a stand-alone winery, I have never visited but friends who have say it is a memorable experience.
The Ferrari-Carano winery is located in the Dry Creek AVA in Sonoma, but the bulk of the grapes for the Ferrari-Carano Dry Sangiovese Rosé Sonoma 2021came from estate vineyards in the Alexander County AVA, also in Sonoma.
The weather in the sustainably farmed vineyards was warm and dry, these grapes were farmed during drought conditions, and luckily grapes do not need much water. Grape harvest started on August 16th which was the earliest start of harvest in memory. Harvest ended October 8th. While the technical notes do not explicitly state this the various grape varietals were fermented separately.
By December 2021 the grapes from the Ferrari-Carano Dry Sangiovese Rosé Sonoma 2021 had completed fermentation and had been blended into the final mix and bottled. This is a Rosé with a little aging, it is designed to be bright and fruit-forward. Ferrari-Carano suggests pairing with seafood and poultry, along with interesting cheeses. The alcohol content is 13.9% which suggests this Rosé has more body than most Rosé wines in this price range. (I found it on sale for $11.99)
The Ferrari-Carano Dry Sangiovese Rosé Sonoma 2021 Tasting Notes
The color is more amber than pink and is clear and shiny. The nose is full of ripe red berries, soft spice, a hint of cream (no oak was used), apple, peach, and pear. The Ferrari-Carano Dry Sangiovese Rosé Sonoma 2021 is very balanced with delicate flavors.
This Rosé tastes like a mix of lemon, watermelon, and sour apple, along with raspberry, and light spice. The mid-palate adds a salty sensation, lip-smacking grapefruit, and dried strawberry bits. The acidity allows the flavors to unfold and gives this Rosé good length. You will find yourself reaching for the next sip without actually thinking about it.
