The Dancing Flame Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is an Aldi $6.99 import exclusive. Vina Luis Felipe Edwards produced this wine, a winery founded in Chile in 1976, and sourced from grapes grown in the Colchagua Valley. We first reviewed the 2012 vintage back in 2014, that wine sold for $4.99.

Dancing Flame Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

The Dancing Flame name refers to the 500 active volcanoes in Chile, and the Chaiten volcano is named on the label. It last erupted in 2008 and is located in southern Chile.

The Reserva in Dancing Flame Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 indicates the wine has a minimum of 12% alcohol; it is rated at 14% but otherwise has little meaning. Wineries typically use the term to show a better quality wine and more extended aging. The 2012 vintage had three months of oak aging.

The winery has several vineyards located in Chile and the Colchagua Valley, but the bottle does not indicate if any of the grapes are from the estate. In checking back on our tasting of the 2012 Dancing Flame, I was not impressed. It was too light and simple compared to Cabernet Sauvignon, selling for a few bucks more. So, let us see if the Dancing Flame Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 improves at $2 more.

The Dancing Flame Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 Tasting Notes

The color is garnet red with black highlights. The nose is ripe red berries, blackberry, slightly smokey, soft spice, herbs, and mint. The Dancing Flame Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 has improved since the 2012 vintage; this is a smooth, fruit-forward Cabernet with bright acidity.

This Cabernet Sauvignon tastes like raspberry, black pepper, light herbs, and soft spice. The mid-palate brings blackberry, a salty sensation, sour cherry, and faint bitter chocolate. This is not a complex wine, but it does have more than enough flavor to hold your interest.

The Summary

  • The Dancing Flame Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is a decent $6.99 supermarket brand wine.
  • I was no fan of the 2012 vintage, but this is a very drinkable wine for the 2019 vintage.
