The Côté Mas Sauvignon Blanc Vermentino 2024 is a wine I found at Trader Joe’s, selling for $11.99. Trader Joe’s price is in the ballpark with prices from other stores.
The Story
Côté Mas is Jean-Claude Mas of Domaine Paul Mas. The family has had vineyards since the 1890s, but more recently Jean-Claude has brought new energy to the wines of the Languedoc region of southwest France. He has one of the leading wineries there.
This is an IGP or Vin de Pays d’Oc wine, which is subject to fewer rules and regulations than AOP wines. An IGP wine is still an excellent representative of the local growing area.
The White blend is 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Vermentino. Vermentino is an Italian White grape that is reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc, with some differences.
The Sauvignon Blanc and the Vermentino are fermented seperatly in stainless steel vats and then blended to taste.
The alcohol content is 12.5%
The Côté Mas Sauvignon Blanc Vermentino 2024 Tasting Notes
The color is a soft, see-through butter yellow. The nose is interesting, melon, tropical fruit, more hard-edged scents than sweet and fruity. The Côté Mas Sauvignon Blanc Vermentino 2024 has a firm mouth-feel and rich flavors.
This White blend tastes like green apple, lemon/lime, not too tart grapefruit, pear, peach, coconut milk, a salty/nutty sensation, and stone fruit.
The acidity is well-balanced
The Summary
- The Côté Mas Sauvignon Blanc Vermentino 2024 tastes great; not so sure about the nose, but the flavor is excellent.
- A nice change of pace White wine without doing much changing.
- Nice label, nice bottle, nice wine.
