The Compass Bridge Sonoma Chardonnay 2024 is a $9 Trader Joe’s exclusive. It appears to be produced by Delicato/Coppola Wines.
The Story
The back label reads ” Vinted and bottled by Compas Bridge,” Manteca and Geyserville, California. Manteca (Lodi AVA) is the home of Delicato Family Vineyards, and Geyserville is the home of Coppola Wines. Delicato purchased Coppola a few years ago.
A quick check of the California Wine Cola Registry shows this Chardonnay was Geyserville as its place of production, which checks since Geyserville is in Sonoma and this is a Sonoma County AVA wine.
Sonoma County is a large AVA, and there are multiple sub-AVAs growing excellent Chardonnay grapes.
CWF reviewed the 2023 vintage, which we thought was a bargain.
The Fearless Flyer mentions that the grapes came from vineyards with diverse soils and also mentions spices and flavors that come from some sort of oak treatment.
The Alcohol content is 13.5%.
The Compass Bridge Sonoma Chardonnay 2024 Tasting Notes
The nose is pineapple, lemon, vanilla, melon, and a little spice, along with apple and pear. The Compass Bridge Sonoma Chardonnay 2024 has good body and husky, fruit-forward (not sweet) flavors.
This Chardonnay tastes like Green apple, a little honey, pineapple, vanilla, dark spice, a hint of green pepper, peach, and pear. An interesting flavor array for a sub-$10 wine.
The acidity does it job well.
