The Chronic Cellars Suite Petite Petite Sirah 2021 is sourced from vineyards in Paso Robles in California’s Central Coast AVA. It is 90% Petite Sirah and 10% Syrah. This brand was founded (in 2004) by the Beckett Brothers, the sons of Doug Beckett who was the owner of Peachy Canyon Wines, one of the folks who put Paso Robles Zinfandel on the map. The sons sold this brand and are now managing Peachy Canyon.

Chronic Cellars Suite Petite Petite SIrah 2021

Petite Sirah is a recently developed grape that a man named Durif combined the Syrah grape and the Pelourison (a rarely planted but hearty grape) to create a grape resistant to pests and disease. The Syrah grape in the 1800s was having problems but by the time he perfected his creation the vineyard’s difficulty subsided and Petite Sirah was not needed. It is Petite Sirah since the grapes are smaller than regular Syrah grapes.

While Petite Sirah did not become a success in France it does well in California and Australia. The Chronic Cellars Suite Petite Petite Sirah 2021 is a brand with no vineyards or winemaking facility. They are now one of the WX Brands family of wines.

Chronic Cellars does not go into great detail on the making the Chronic Cellars Suite Petite Petite Sirah 2021the Chronic Cellars Suite Petite Petite Sirah 2021 but they do tell that this aged for 8 months “on” French oak. I never knew what French oak meant and they do not mention oak barrels, so they used French oak to condition this wine in some manner.
