The Bear Bros. The California Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is an Aldi exclusive, priced at $7.99. I checked the California Wine Club Registry and found that an entity of Sutter Home was involved in the production.
The Story
Sutter Home wines are part of the Trinchero Family of Wine and Spirits. Sutter Home typically sells non-vintage wine, so the Bear Bros. should have origins with a different part of the organization.
Trinchero has a nice portfolio of wines, including Joel Gott, Menage a Trois, Seaglass, and many others. They have decades of experience and should have zero problems creating a value-priced wine for Aldi.
The Bear Bros. California Sauvignon Blanc 2023 does not have production notes; however, most value Sauvignon Blancs are produced similarly.
Pick the grapes at the right time, ferment and age the juice in stainless steel vats, and after a couple of months, you have a tasty Sauvignon Blanc.
The alcohol content is 12.5% and the grapes were sourced from differnt growing areas in California.
The Bear Bros. California Sauvignon Blanc 2023 Tasting Notes
The color is almost clear with a hint of gold and green. The nose is a little shy (it was placed in the refrigerator for a couple of hours, and that can mask the scent), there is peach, pear, melon, lemon, apple, candy spice, and a floral edge. Bear Bros. California Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is balanced and smooth.
This Sauvignon Blanc tastes like a stew of pear, apple, lemon, and grapefruit. Followed by mild spice and some tropical fruit. There is a nice blend of fruit and citrus flavors.
The acidity is well-balanced; in past years, under ten-dollar wines often had too much or too little acidity, but today there are seldom issues.
The Summary
- The Bear Bros. California Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is a quality $7.99 wine; it is very sippable.
- It may not be your favorite Sauv Blanc, but it should be one you enjoy.
