The Bacchus Ginger’s Cuvee Pinot Noir 2023 is a wine I found at a local wine retailer selling for $12.99. It is a wine label from David Gordon, the Sommelier at Tribeca Grill (owned by Robert De Niro) since 1990.
The Story
David Gordon has had an outstanding career, he is one of 3 Americans to be made an honorary citizen of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, among other honors.
He founded the Bacchus label to produce excellent wine at a value price. The Ginger in the title is his daughter.
HERE IS A WINE FACT: Whenever you see a wine named after a loved one, it is going to be a top-quality wine.
David Gordon knows people. When he started his label, Caymus, Miner Family, and Lewis Cellars helped out with grapes and expertise.
The 2023 vintage of the Bacchus Ginger’s Cuvee Pinot Noir 2023 is sourced from well-chosen vineyards in the Monterey AVA.
This Pinot Noir was fermented in a 50% stainless steel tank and 50% neutral oak barrels. Stainless steel permits no air transfer, and oak barrels, while water-tight, are not wholly airtight. That tiny amount of air changes the wine differently from the stainless steel.
The wine was aged for an additional 10 months, again in neutral oak, giving the Pinot Noir time to seek its balance.
The alcohol content is 13.5%, which is low for today’s California Pinot Noir.
The Bacchus Ginger’s Cuvee Pinot Noir 2023 Tasting Notes
The color is a see-through garnet red with a clear halo. The nose is black cherry, herbs, and interesting spice. Along with ripe strawberries, a little mint, and cold coffee. The Bacchus Ginger’s Cuvee Pinot Noir 2023 is fresh, subtle, and tasty.
This Pinot Noir tastes like cherry with a hint of cream, black licorice, and mocha. Followed by stonefruit, raspberry, herbs, and orange zest.
The tannins are sweet, and the acidity is controlled and allowing the flavors to fully unfold.
The Summary
- The Bacchus Ginger’s Cuvee Pinot Noir 2023 is well worth a try, and the price is right.
- It is a solid, highly sippable Pinot Noir, and they are always welcome.
