The Angels and Cowboys Sonoma Rosé 2022 is a wine I found on sale for $11.99 and a quick check of the web showed prices from $14 to $17. Angels and Cowboys is a brand from Share a Splash Wine Company which also has Cannonball and Astrolabe brands.
This is a Rosé made with a nod to the style of Provence Rosé. The blend is mainly Grenache sourced from vineyards in the Russian River and Dry Creek AVAs. The Syrah is taken from Carneros, the Sonoma Coast, and the Sonoma Valley. The Carignan is grown in the Alexander Valley. Grenache, Syrah, and Carignan are typical of a Provence Rosé blend.
The Angels and Cowboys Sonoma Rosé 2022 is lightly de-stemmed and pressed. The skins are kept in contact with the juice for only a few minutes before the grapes are fully pressed. This limits the amount of color of the Rosé.
After fermentation, the Rosé is aged on-lees for a few weeks before bottling. On-lees is where the spent yeast is kept with the fermented juice, it imparts a nutty/salty flavor and can give the wine a creamy texture when stirred.
So we have a Provence-style Rose´featuring Sonoma County fruit which just may be the best of both worlds Rosé for value-priced wine drinkers. The alcohol content is 12.5%.
The Angels and Cowboys Sonoma Rosé 2022 Tasting Notes
The color is little girl’s bedroom decor pink. The nose is bright and fresh, there are hints of cherry, strawberry, soft spice, a floral note, and watermelon. The Angels and Cowboys Sonoma Rosé 2022 is light and delicate yet has plenty of flavor.
This Rosé tastes like dried strawberry, black cherry, that salty/nutty on-lees sensation, and watermelon. The mid-palate mirrors the body of the wine but does add pink lemonade and a late slap of ripe juicy cherry.
The acidity sets your palate up for the next sip and gives this subtle but tasty Rosé a very good length.
- The Angels and Cowboys Sonoma Rosé 2022 is an excellent summer cooler.
- Chill a few bottles and watch the clouds roll by.
