The Aldi Specially Selected Brut Cava is an Aldi $8.99 Import exclusive from Northeast Spain.
The Story

The Aldi Specially Selected Brut Cava is produced by Torre Oria, a wine company founded in 1897, and was the first Cava produced outside of the Penedes.
Cava Sparkling wines are made the same way as Champagne; the second fermentation occurs in the bottle.
The traditional grape blend used is Parellada, Macebeo, and Xarel·lo, which are indigenous to the region.
This Bubbly is designated a Guarda, or young wine, indicating the 2nd fermentation lasted only 9 months. In Champagne, a year and a half is the quicker fermentation.
This Bubbly is 100% Macebeo and not the 3-grape blend. Torre Orie’s standard Cava Brut is Macebeo only and has a 9-month second fermentation.
This may be a relabeled version of their flagship Cava.
The alcohol content is 11.5%.
The Aldi Specially Selected Brut Cava Tasting Notes
The color is a soft blend of gold and silver. The nose is bright, sharp citrus, a little brioche, apple, and lemon. The Aldi Specially Selected Brut Cava is rounded and balanced, almost delicate.
This Cava tastes like stone fruit and light honey, Green apple, and Anjou pear, with a hint of tropical fruit.
The acidity is very well balanced.
The Summary
- The Aldi Specially Selected Brut Cava doesn’t taste like the usual supermarket cava; it has a bit of elegance.
- Maybe I am used to the 3-grape blend, but this Bubbly caught my attention.
- Nine bucks for a well-made, tasty imported Bubbly is a steal.
