I like seeing the winemaker use 1% of this and 2% of that in a wine, it shows the winemaker was highly focused in their approach. The Bar Dog Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is a wine sold at local Chicago stores for $10.99 and found online for $13 to $14. This is a wine that is widely available and can be found in supermarkets and well as wine shops.

Bar Dog donates money to animal shelters to help find permanent homes for shelter dogs. They also have a contest going on in June where you can vote for the next dog to be featured on the Bar Dog Label.

The technical notes do not offer much production details, but it does mention that a portion of the wine was “aged with new French oak.” That isn’t too specific but it does mean the wine should show some oak flavors. The alcohol content is 13.5%.

This Cabernet Sauvignon tastes like blackberry, licorice, juicy plum, blueberry, and a little vanilla cream. The mid-palate mostly mirrors the main body of the wine but does add slightly chewy tannins, milk chocolate, and cranberry. The acidity is balanced the flavors have plenty of time to unfold.

The Summary

  • The Bar Dog Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is an excellent summer back porch/balcony sipper.
  • If you like your Cab Sauvs to be big and bold then the Bar Dog may not be your favorite.
  • But if you are in the company of mixed wine drinkers, some like bold wines, some like softer wines, then the Bar Dog splits
  • the difference and can appeal to a wide range of wine drinkers.
