The Kirkland Signature Extra Dry Prosecco Rosé 2021 is a 7.99 Costco exclusive. The traditional Prosecco grape, Glera, and Pinot Noir are used for additional flavor and color. This is an Extra Dry or slightly sweet wine, which is the way the Italians prefer it. The natural acidity balances the extra sugar, so this is not a sweet wine.
Most Prosecco wines are non-vintage, that way the winery can develop a “house style” that can be replicated year after year. The Kirkland Signature Extra Dry Prosecco Rosé 2021 is a vintage-dated wine, which means each Bubbly represents a particular vintage.
The Glera grape has green skin, so Pinot Noir and its red skin are needed to make the Sparkling wine pink. Prosecco differs from Champagne since the second fermentation occurs in huge pressurized tanks. In Champagne, the 2nd fermentation happens in the bottle.
After the Glera grapes and the Pinot Noir are fermented separately for the first time, they are combined in the pressurized tank for the second fermentation. A measured amount of yeast and sugar is added to the tank, it is then sealed and the pressure is turned on.
Pinot Noir-based Champagne is my personal favorite, I like Chardonnay-based Champagne too. But the addition of Pinot Noir adds a roundness and rich flavor that appeals to me. I look forward to seeing exactly what Pinot Noir brings to Prosecco—the alcohol content is 11%.
The Kirkland Signature Extra Dry Prosecco Rosé 2021 Tasting Notes
The color is Barbie Playhouse pink with a touch of salmon. The nose is sour cherry, grapefruit, spice, a hint of yeasty bread, stone fruit, and spring flowers. The Kirkland Signature Extra Dry Prosecco Rosé 2021 is nicely rounded on the palate with delicate flavors.
This Sparkling wine tastes like tart cranberry, with a hint of cream, grapefruit, lemon, and Anjou pear. The mid-palate follows the main body of this Prosecco but does add a salty sensation and black cherry. The acidity balances the extra sugar and sets your palate up for the next sip.
