The Don’t Mind If I Do Sauvignon Blanc 2020 is a $7.99 ALDI low-calorie wine. This is a wine with 85 calories, sugar-free, 3.4g of carbohydrates, .4g of protein, and 0% fat. One of the reasons for the low calories is this Sauvignon Blanc has only 9% alcohol content.
The brand name Don’t Mind If I Do own by ALDI. Still, this Sauvignon Blanc is produced by a winery located in Greenfield, California, which happens to be a top-notch Monterey AVA-based winery that produces wines for both ALDI and Trader Joe’s, among others.
They also have a fitness-oriented wine brand with details that mirror the Don’t Mind If I Do Sauvignon Blanc 2020. So, is this wine directly related to that wine? Maybe, maybe not. But you may want to figure out which winery I am talking about if you do not have a nearby ALDI.
Dry White wine, such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, are naturally some of the lower-calorie wines, but the Don’t Mind If I Do Sauvignon Blanc 2020 is supposed to be 30% lower than the typical White wine. Lower alcohol wine typically has more residual sugar but lower alcohol content, but the Don’t Mind If I Do Sauvignon Blanc 2020 is sugar-free.
The low-cal Sauvignon Blanc from the aforementioned unnamed winery got their results from removing the alcohol from a portion of the wine and blending that in with the other Sauvignon Blanc. So, it seems that clever winemaking techniques have produced a healthier wine that drinks like regular wine.
I am looking forward to tasting this Sauv Blanc, is it a healthier wine that tastes the same? (we will see). So on to the tasting portion.
Don’t Mind If I Do Sauvignon Blanc 2020 Tasting Notes
The color is a clear, pale wheat yellow. The nose is delicate lemon, green apple, honey, lime, grapefruit, some vanilla creme (creme is French for cream, I am just being fancy), peach, coconut, and faint pineapple. The no sugar and the low alcohol did not hinder the aromas.
The Don’t Mind If I Do Sauvignon Blanc 2020 is a medium to light-bodied Sauv Blanc with balanced flavors and well-controlled acidity. It starts with light pear, lemon curd, a salty, slightly nutty sensation, green apple, melon, a touch of cream, a light spice. As you can see, the no sugar and low-calories didn’t stop the wine from having flavor.
This is a lean Sauvignon Blanc, and the flavors are subdued; Sauv Blancs can sometimes be a “shouty” wine. If you are a fan of New Zealand wines, this may not be your style. While it is a quieter Sauvignon Blanc, it is still a rather tasty wine.
The Summary
- Other than the lighter body, I would not know that the Don’t Mind If I Do Sauvignon Blanc 2020 is low alcohol, low-cal wine.
- If you do not have an Aldi nearby, try Sunny with a Chance of Flowers Sauvignon Blanc from Sheid family vineyards, that wine should be similar to the ALDI wine.
- 30% fewer calories, no sugar, and 9% alcohol makes this a great wine to pour when folks have to drive home or when you need to be at your best the next day.
- This is a wine that is good for you without an enjoyment penalty.
If “Don’t mind if I do” is owned by Aldi’s, Why can I not find it in Central Illinois?
The only thing I can tell you is to ask the manager about the wine; they may have some delivered to the store. Here is the website for the folks who seem to have made the wine for ALDI, https://sunnywines.com The Sunny with a chance for Flowers wines has all the same details.
