2010 Twisted Chardonnay

Twisted 2011 California Chardonnay - FRONTThe 2010 Twisted Chardonnay (Twisted refers to the gnarled grapevines) is 100% Chardonnay produced by Indelicato Family Vineyards sourced from grapes grown in more than one California grape growing AVA. This Chardonnay is meant to be an inexpensive (lists for $7.99,I found it for $5.99), solid California Chard, some malolactic, a little bit of some sort of oak conditioning, but mainly fresh fruit flavors. This is not a wine with an interesting story behind it, it is just a wine that delivers above its price point. The alcohol content is 13.5%.

The color is a golden wheat yellow. The nose is not shy, melon, lemon, apple, pear with a touch of pineapple jump out of the glass. This is a medium bodied Chardonnay with a dry mouthfeel. It tastes of fresh pineapple, lemon chiffon, Macintosh apple, a spritz of lime juice and DelMonte canned pears. The mid palate brings a slight touch of minerality, a hint of creamy butter and a late bit of fleshy papaya. The acidity is balanced, it is definitely in the mix and would help this Chardonnay pair with dishes from spicy Asian to shrimp salad. The finish is soft and subtle, but long lasting.

The 2010 Twisted Chardonnay is a solid, very useful Chardonnay. It is well made, with tons of flavor and well balanced acidity, bring it along to the cool local BYOB joint or pop the top (actually, twist the top, it’s a screw-cap) on the back porch or balcony. This is a no issues, a Taste of California Chardonnay. Not a “wow” Chardonnay, more of I am very satisfied that I got very good value for my money Chardonnay.
