seaglass_chardonnay_2012The 2012 Seaglass Unoaked Chardonnay is sourced from Trinchero Family Estates (Seaglass is one of their labels) 585 acre “Los Alamos” vineyard in Santa Barbara County on the southern end of the Central Coast AVA. Santa Barbara is about 120 miles north of Los Angeles and it borders on the Pacific Ocean. The Seaglass Chardonnay is fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks and does not undergo malolactic fermentation. Malolactic fermentation is a winemaking procedure that is widely used in the making of Red wine and is sometimes used with Chardonnay. It changes the tart malic acid naturally found in grapes to lactic acid which is found in milk and cheese, it gives Chardonnay a creamy, buttery flavor, but here, the tart flavors prevail. The alcohol content is 13.9%.

The color is a clear, shiny, golden-yellow. The nose is a pretty mix of citrus and fruit, tangerine, apple, grapefruit, apricot, lime and pear.  The Seaglass is a light to medium bodied Chardonnay, with a solid, crisp dose of acidity. It tastes of pink grapefruit, green apple, lime and melon. The mid palate transition to tart lemon, kiwi and Anjou pear. The acidity is well balanced and it allows the lemon/lime finish to sizzle along for a good length of time.

The 2012 Seaglass Unoaked Chardonnay a very tasty warm weather Chardonnay. Crisp, clean and refreshing, with a well-balanced array of flavors, it would pair well with pasta with white sauce, seafood and spicy Asian. This is one of those wines that have you reaching for your glass for a sip and then another. There is nothing outstanding about the Seaglass Unoaked Chardonnay, it is a modest wine, but what it does it does very well.
