The Piper Sonoma Brut Revisited is a wine I found for $18, it lists for $23. We did a full reviewing December of 2023, it was my favorite Sparkling wine we reviewed for the Holiday season. Here is a link to that post with all the wine details.

Piper Sonoma Brut Revisited

This Bubbly showed well in the Christmas season, we featured many Sparkling WInes during the Holidays and I thought it was a standout. There are few new wines in the heat of the summer, especially with value-priced wines. Airconditioned trucks and containers are a luxury it makes more sense to ship wine when the temperatures cool.

So I thought let’s see if my top Bubbly of the Holidays can be a top summer Sparkler. The Piper Sonoma Brut Revisited has been in Sonoma since 1980. The blend is 70% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir, and 3% Pinot Blanc (White) and to put a cherry on top, they add 7% of Piper Sonoma Reserve Bubbly.

The grapes are sourced from Sonoma growers, most have been used for 20 years, and some for three decades. The second fermentation or triage lasts 19 months, the minimum in Champagne is 18 months so this triage is legit. The alcohol content is 12.5%.

So let’s go to the tasting portion to see if my fond memories served me well.

The Piper Sonoma Brut Revisited Tasting Notes

The color is a combination of gold and platinum. The nose is interesting, there is honey, flowers, crusty bread, apple, lemon, peach, and soft spice. The Piper Sonoma Brut Revisited is a delicious stew of flavors, this is far more complex than you would expect at this price.

This Brut Sparkling WIne tastes like spiced apple pie (not sweet), lemon curd, honey, lemon hard candy (again not sweet), and peach. The mid-palate shows dried cranberry, guava, orange zest, brioche, and faint stone fruit.

The acidity does a great job of holding this Bubbly together.

The Summary

  • The Piper Sonoma Brut Revisited is as good a Bubbly in the summer as it was for Christmas/New Year’s, go figure.
  • This Bubbly would rock waffles and fried chicken, have enough body for cold shrimp or oysters, and make buttered popcorn even better.
