Back in 2011, we found that Ancient Peaks Winery owns the Familia Nueva name, so some part of their enterprise produced the wine. There are 5 AVAs inside of San Luis Obispo County, Paso Robles, Arroyo Grande Valley, San Luis Obispo Coast, Edna Valley, and Youk Mountain.
The Liberte San Luis Obispo Pinot Noir 2020 has a website. It does not give much information concerning this specific wine, but it does say the vineyard is 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean, which will provide the long, cool growing season that Pinot Noir grapevines crave.
It also mentions flavors of cedar and cinnamon, which may indicate some sort of oak aging. This is a Pinot Noir that has kept its quality and low price for 12 years, they are doing something right. The alcohol content is 14.8% which is stiff for a Pinot Noir, but the back label says this is a New World Pinot, so do not expect a Burgundian wine.
The Liberte San Luis Obispo Pinot Noir 2020 Tasting Notes
The color is garnet red with black highlights. The nose is cherry, spice, black pepper, plum, a hint of vanilla, and a savory note. The Liberte San Luis Obispo Pinot Noir 2020 is bright and juicy, silky and smooth, except for the spice.
This Pinot Noir tastes like black cherry, rough-edged spice, ripe plum, black pepper, that cinnamon they promised. The mid-palate offers strawberry, orange zest, sour cherry, and more spice. The tannins are sweet and the acidity is nicely balanced.
