The La Burgondie Cremant de Bourgogne Brut Rosé (2024) is an $11.99 Trader Joe’s wine in cities with a Trader Joe’s wine department. I found this wine selling for $16 to $19 in places not served by Trader Joe’s. La Burgandie makes this French Bubbly. They are a Co-op with over 700 growers and produce a full line of Burgundian wine.
The Story
Burgundy is south and west of Paris, Beaujolais is located in the southern section and Champagne is in the north, Burgundy is the HOME of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and possibly the finest examples of those wines are produced here.
A Cremant is a Sparkling wine or Bubbly produced in the Traditional or Champagne style but not made inside of the Champagne growing region. Champagne is a Sparkling wine/Bubbly but has obtained the status of a singular Sparkling wine type.
Champagne Bubbly commands high prices and people normally will only pay those prices for Champagne, all other Bubbly wines need to be well-priced to compete.
The La Burgondie Cremant de Bourgogne Brut Rosé (2024) uses mainly Pinot Noir grapes with some Gamay grapes (the technical notes suggest that there may be a small amount of Chardonnay in the blend).
The second fermentation, where the bubbles are created, lasted 12 months. By contrast, the minimum time mandated in Champagne is 18 months. The longer the 2nd fermentation the more the bubbles are incorporated into the wine.
The La Burgondie Cremant de Bourgogne Brut Rosé (2024) is a non-vintage wine that is common with sparkling wine. Most producers only make vintage-dated Bubbly during exceptional vintages. This Bubbly has been available at Trader Joe’s for several years, we reviewed this Bubbly in 2022 this may be the same wine or it could be a newer version. The alcohol content is 12%.
The La Burgondie Cremant de Bourgogne Brut Rosé (2024) Tasting Notes
The color is salmon pink. The nose is strawberry, brioche bread, faint herbs, a little spice, and a light floral note. The La Burgondie Cremant de Bourgogne Brut Rosé (2024) is nicely complex with very good length.
This bubbly tastes like black cherry, a little vanilla cream, tart cranberry, a hint of yeasty bread, soft plum, interesting spice, and a touch of minerality, and pomegranate.
The acidity is balanced and does its job well, allowing the flavors to leisurely unfold.
The Summary
